Death by duelling with frying pans. OK, it happened in 1660 but it's less wussy than being scared to death by fairies which seems to have been the most common cause of death in the village of Lamplugh according to newly discovered records.

Er, yes. That voucher did not make it's way around work this afternoon. Nor did I drive home via the local Wine Rack, and I'm certainly not drinking discount wine right now. Certainly not. Ahem.

Story about radiation poisoning of spy gets weirder.

That is such a big story in Britain right now. I heard a radio phone-in where someone whinged that the guy shouldn't have been given asylum here in the first place because the Russians are our allies. Because someone using a chemical that costs £2000,000 to kill him doesn't give any clues to why he might not want to saty at home...

I know this story is serious, but all I can think of is a Jason Bourne-type character, somewhere in Europe, in deep, deep crap for having his mission end up on CNN/BBC.

Is this spray can the condom or the mace?

Someone on my flist (yarha) commented that if it comes in gold, we could have a real-life gold-member situation here...

[Wacky foreign money sign] 200,000?! Worst assassins ever. They chose something that took three weeks (why do that when you're trying to shut the guy up?) and paid way too much. Poisonous mushrooms are free, easily sprinkled on sushi, and don't leave a radioactive trail. Honestly, it can't be that hard.

My take is that this wasn't intended to be any kind of secret. This was supposed to send a message to anybody else wanting to poke into Russian affairs that they will get you and kill you slowly and they don't care how much it costs.

Ah, gotcha. It just seems like overkill (ha!) as I got that message after they killed the reporter, you know?

Perhaps he was careless with his Swiss Army knife.

Wow! South Carolina certainly has some strict laws on Correct Observance of Christmas - 12-year-old arrested for opening presents early

Well, that was certainly a novel way of teaching him a lesson. Though I hope that the crime in her town is really low considering that she look up the time of law enforcement with her little lesson.

I'm sorry -- all the librarians who know how to teach that kind of research are retired or dead.

Oh, come on, SC! My home state frustrates me sometimes. And no, the crime level in Columbia is not at a level where this should have happened.
