And you don't have a massive hit with lyrics about listening to a Jay-Z song on the radio, er, playing on radio stations right now.

I am so out-of-touch with popular music I hadn't even heard that song until they played it on The Soup. *Insert grumbling about kids and lawns, et cetera*

I read that Twilight quote to my husband, and he said, "The enemy of my enemy is my...friend?"

I hate to go there, but I mostly got a big dose of juz jellus off her. Also, the quote in its entirety sounds vaguely ooky and religious paranoid to me.
QUOTE
“I’ve never seen [Twilight], and nor will I ever. I don’t believe in it—I don’t believe in it. I don’t like vampires, I don’t like any of the stuff, like the wolf that pops out of the screen when I’m watching my TV at night. I don’t like it, I don’t want anything to do with it. I don’t like the shirts, any of it.”

Okay, I was imagining some kind of unrelated Sadako-style wolf coming out of her TV and I was like, honey, you've got more problems than we have time to talk about right now.

Well, with Miley that is likely true, screen busting werewolves or no.

Some people just don't do supernatural stuff. I don't know. It doesn't have to be a realism thing, they just don't like it.

Yeah, that read more like a, 'I don't like scary movies,' with an overtone of maybe her parents were of the helicopter type who, like, skipped the first five minutes of Monsters Inc with her as a child, deeming it too adult and scary, much like most of the parents I know. And, while it is ironic that someone as commerically manufactured as a popular television star and recording artist as she is, buys into the backlash against whatever is the current Hot Thing For Teens, I kind of get that, too. I have had so many dozens of people tell me I need to read those books, and I just think, "eh." Just like we all know people who will never watch a Star Wars or LOTR movie because of all of the fans getting too scarily 'in' to that stuff.

I wonder where her handlers are, though. You would think that when she signed on to sing about loving a Jay Z song, someone would have sat her down and explained who he was and about Def Jam and played her a song of his.

Hmm, I actually could have said that entire quote, and I don't really like Miley. I'm not sure where you get religious paranoid out of that. I don't like the wolf that jumps out either, and I hate vampires. Also, I'm twice her age. And seriously, I don't think that Miley has anything to be jealous of, she's doing just fine for herself.

Yeah she kinda sounds like me discussing my refusal to watch Paranormal Activity. I mean I dont like Miley, but I dont get the religious paranoia.

It's the, "I don't believe in it" part that can come across as religious paranoia. Because I don't think anybody except the deeply disturbed "believe" that vampires and werewolves are real.

And the number of times she feels the need to restate how averse she is to the ENTIRE concept of the occult/supernatural, not just stupid Twilight itself. As if anyone even suggesting she might like vampires/werewolves had defamed her, and given how much she markets her religious values I don't think it's a leap to read that in.

Eh, I know a lot of people who are completely averse to the whole idea without it being a religious thing at all. I am not religious in her way in the slightest, but I have never been into anything with vampires/werewolves or dark sides of the occult, they creep me out.

I remember her saying one thing about her religion once, when she was dating the underwear model. But I guess we're all going to hear what we want to hear in that quote, depending on our opinion of Miley as well as of Twilight.

I, for one, find it hilarious. Especially when she mentions the shirts, because really, how random is that? Plus, it's pretty ballsy, considering that I'd bet there's a significant overlap between her fans and Twilight fans

Only Miley could hate Twilight for the wrong reasons. The...shirts...? What? Good grief. And it disturbs me that she thinks it's, like, an accurate representation of vampire/werewolf lore. Bram Stoker is turning in his grave.

And I have to say, the Jay-Z comment made me a bit stabby, just because she said it so dismissively. Dude, don't brag that you don't write your own songs. And you don't have to like Jay or rap or whatever, but he's pretty accomplished and respected in the music industry, and just going "oh him, yeah, whatever, I don't listen to him" was just...ugh. Remember that whole thing with her and Radiohead? She annoys me so very, very much.

Rihanna's been doing an amazing thing, speaking out about what she went through with Chris Brown, but I especially like what she says here:
QUOTE
I really hope young men can learn from it. Even more than the girls, the men really need to learn from it. Because everyone's focusing on the women, but the problem isn't the women.

Preach it.
