Don't think anyone has started this one yet. Anyway this is a film I saw when I was about 10 so it must have been 1960s or earlier (it was in colour). The only think I remember is that it ended (I think) with hero and heroine in a balloon throwing lots of treasure overboard but when they'd managed the get the balloon to rise again, the heroine revealed she still had a jewel in her mouth. I'm fairly sure they were in Victorian dress. I think it might have been some sort of Jules Verne-ish type parody (though definitely not Around the World in 80 Days).

Any ideas?

In french class, I had to watch a movie about these two opera singers. One was a man who had no classical training what so ever, but great potential, the other was a really pretty woman who I think had trained all her life. The two fall in love and perform some sort of duet towards the end that sounds amazing, and I cannot for the life of me remember what the movie was called. I saw this movie at least 6 years ago, and it seemed pretty recent, like maybe the mid to late 90's or something. Oh, the movie was in French as well.

Possibly The Music Teacher? (Le Maître de Musique). Philippe Volter (who played the young male student) was hot. It's from the late 80's. At the end, he has a con-*test*-('") with his teacher's rival's student, wearing masks, and he wins because his teacher taught him to reach the high notes.

That's The Music Teacher, which I love, but I don't think it's available on dvd, except thru some foreign distributors. The two young singers duet a version of the the love song from "La Traviata" at the end, which inspired in me a passion for that opera at a very young age.

I found The Music Teacher available on DVD, through third-party sellers on amazon.com. I think I saw that movie once upon a time as well, but I don't really remember.

ACH DU LIEBER. I'm losing my mind.

I was watching French Kiss and it reminded me of this other movie I saw. It involved a man losing his luggage (or maybe his visa didn't something?) on a trip to France. He meets with a lady who works with the airline to solve the problem. She actually is from the U.S. and while he's burning time there they go out and spend time together. They begin to like each other and yadda yadda yadda. He wants her to go back with him to the states and she does, but it doesn't work out so well... ? I don't know, that's pretty much what the movie is about.

Does it ring anyone's bell?

About Paris? Billy Crystal loses his dead father's coffin (or his ashes, or something) and meets Debra Winger, and they get married, but their marriage falls apart. The movie is told in flashbacks as their friends wait for them at a restaurant and tell stories about their relationship.

Forget Paris, actually. But yeah, that's the one.

Is that the one where Billy Crystal is a basketball referee? That's seriously the only thing I remember about that movie.

Whoops. I was close. That'll teach me to post while cooking dinner at the same time.

Yeah, he plays a basketball referee.

THAT'S IT. Huzzah! Thanks for your help! I just popped over to YouTube and watched some bits of it. Why would that movie stick in my mind? Meh.

This scene popped into my head last night while watching Burglar and it's driving me crazy that I can't place the film. From the 80s, I think, the end has something to do with a treasure (diamonds, gems of some kind?) which turn out to have been hidden in plain sight in an exhibit in an aquarium. Any ideas?

It's probably not this one, but Out of Sight features diamonds hidden in a fish tank.

Okay so I watched this when I was a kid and I need it not to be a fever dream. It was animated in an almost anime-ish style, and it was all about how two elements were brother and sister, and then their kids fell in love, but were seperated Romeo and Juliet style, and I'm pretty sure they died at the end.
