Styx is, was, and will always be AWESOME.

And Woody should never do anything like Match Point ever again because it sucked just that hard.

I have seen most Coen brother films and love them. Yet I had never seen Barton Fink so we rented that the other day.
WTF was that all about???? I get most things but that was just... something else. I liked John Mahoney as the Faulkner-esque character but the rest of it was just so bewildering. I never thought I'd see the day when the Coen brothers would do that to me.

Because I Said So. I really enjoyed. I called the end five minutes into the movie because, well, I have seen a chick flick before. Part of me had a really hard time reconciling this Mandy Moore with the Mandy Moore in Princess Diaries...I didn't realize until watching this movie that that movie was so old. And I giggled when Lauren Graham was being all psychiatrist-y because in my head, I definitely saw Lorelei Gilmore pretending to be a shrink.

Of course, now, I am at home alone and really kind of depressed that my life is not like a chick flick and probably won't end happily ever after quite so neatly.

Saw Scoop finally and was pretty disappointed. I thought Scar Jo was hugely miscast and Woody Allen got on my very last nerve doing his schtick. He should go back to doing Match Point type films.

Funnily enough I watched Match Point last night and was quite disappointed in it. I found the dialogue so unbelievably stilted and pretty much hated every character. I thought there were plenty of good performances in it but I just didn't warm to it at all.

I tried, but I just can't finish Terrorstorm. The narration is so unbelievably horrible that I simply can't pay attention to the extremely bad graphics and poorly selected stock footage. Ugh.

I also rented a documentary about the making of the Alien saga. I'd heard much of this trivia before, but I still enjoyed the interviews with Whedon, Giger, Ladd, Cameron, Ridley Scott, Newt, etc. I hadn't noticed that Roman and Bill Hendrickson (Big Love) are both Alien movie alumni. Hee.

Its unpopular here but Match Point is one of my fave Woody Allen films... possibly because he didnt put himself in it.

I watched Lost in Translation last night for the first time in ages. I'd forgotten how much I like it, especially the "alone in Kyoto" sequence.

At first it seemed like he was totally going to make Scarlett Johnasson his love interest in Scoop. He hasn't yet, but I'm waiting.

It's amazing how he can get almost any actor to sign up for his films. I bet if he wanted Chris Penn for his movie, Penn would rise from his grave, eat a couple of Borsche Belt comics on the set, then get to work.

His next movie stars Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor as brothers. I'm seeing it for the hotness, even if its crap. And then hes doing one with ScarJo again, Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem and a bunch of upcoming actors (Rebecca Hall, Pablo Schreiber).

Continuing with my Drew Barrymore kick, I watched Music and Lyrics. Parodies of 80s music videos will always succeed with me (says the girl who was 5 when the 80s were over) and I found this one mostly enjoyable and fun. The problem was, even though the leads had chemistry, it wasn't *quite* as good as I expected it to be. Rom-coms are where Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore excel, and I like them both, and they were good together, but I expected them to be electric, and it stopped just short of that. Oh well.

I don't even remember putting Stargate (the original movie) in my Netflix queue, but it's been a long ass time since I re-ordered my queue and it somehow found its way to the top.

It was good! I hadn't seen it since it originally came out on video waaaaay back in the mid-90s, but I really liked it. It's just a good sci-fi flick. I love James Spader. He's so likeable in this role, too.

Whatever happened to Jaye Davidson?

xyzzy- 07-07-2007
I guess he didn't like being famous. He was awesome as Ra, though. I wish they'd "re-imagine" the movie without the cheesetastic eye whitening of anger effects. Jaye looked angry enough without all that, imho.

Kiran- 07-07-2007
Yeah, he was amazing in "The Crying Game" but I think he dropped out of Hollywood after a couple of years.

We watched Breach tonight. I'm a sucker for spy and espionage flicks, so I was totally roped in.

I remember seeing pics of Hanssen when he was busted back in 2001, and thinking he was a dead ringer for Jason Gedrick. But JG doesn't have the clout to carry a major motion picture like Chris Cooper, I suppose.

Genevieve- 07-08-2007
I will have to add that to my netflix.
I love espionage movies. Mr. I have you seen the mini-series Cambridge Spies?

Tonight we watched a cinematic masterpiece like no other. Yes folks we watched Transporter 2. It was deliciously and insanely awesome. We laughed, we snorted, we shouted at the screen, "oh my god" and then we giggled some more.
From the evil chick who is wearing her sexy underwear and shooting guns, all while she is being soaked by sprinklers to awesome car chases galore. Plus the poetical musings on French food. Can you tell I am a fan? I loved the original one so much. The second was alright but they decided to lower the bar a little by having a plot right from the start. The first one was amazing because they didn't even bother to have a plot until half way through.
Genius movie. God bless Luc Besson.

Oh yeah and last night we watched Memoirs of a Geisha. Beautiful to look at and so on. But a bit long.
