| Is anyone else scared at how many people have seen Epic Movie? |
Technically, most people have by virtue of having seen the various blockbusters of 2005-6.
The sad thing is, Epic Movie probably came reasonbaly close to tying the movies together (The Superman Returns jokes didn't feel totally wedged in) but once it got to the scene at the camps, it jsut got lazy.

There are many annoying things about Gwyneth Paltrow, but I love Possession for Jeremy Northam and Jennifer Ehle, and that last scene makes me cry every time.

Finally saw The Last King of Scotland last night, and it was both really disturbing and really suspenseful. I didn't know it had that thriller-aspect going into it, so that was a nice surprise.
But, I have to say that although I thought Forrest Whitaker was very good, it was actually James McAvoy who owned that movie. He was phenomenal, and without his outstanding and subtle performance, that movie crashes. I'm surprised more people didn't respond to his performance when it came out. He's barely referred to in some reviews, yet he's in almost every single scene. Odd.

Yesterday I watched Reno 911: Miami. Oh, if only I had known earlier that Paul Rudd was in this movie! And that he looked fine in this movie! I sometimes feel the show is over the top but I really liked the movie and am currently working my way through all the commentaries.
Up next is Casino Royale.

I just finished Spartacus (it only took me a week and a half).
I've always had a bit of a crush on Kirk Douglas, but this movie just cements it for me.
I got all choked up at the end >>when Crassus says no one will be crucified if they only identify Spartacus, and all the slaves start shouting, "I'm Spartacus!" and when Spartacus has just killed Antoninus, and they say that they love each other like father/son<< but I really did start crying at the very end >>when Varinia holds up their son to Spartacus on the cross and says that baby will know his father and will be free<<
It was just so good, and I really enjoyed it, but DAMN! if it wasn't the longest movie ever. I figured it was gonna be long, but I had no idea just how long it would be.

I just saw Reno911 Miami the other day, too. Some of it I thought was dumb, but the scene when <<one of the cops is running by all the hotel rooms, seeing everyone else masturbate, and screaming in horror, all while Pachelbel's Canon is playing>> had me in stitches.

I had a Bad Catholic weekend and watched
Deliver Us From Evil and
The Magdalene Sisters. I had never heard of the latter until my mother mentioned it, but that's some fucked up shit. It's the story of three girls thrown into one of the
Magdalen Laudries in Ireland. They were presided over by the church and were basically asylums where "fallen" women were forced into labor by becoming laundresses. Many were kept there until they died of old age. The film's a bit melodramatic towards the end, but worth it to me just because I knew nothing about this part of history until I watched it. Although, calling it history is a bit misleading considering the last asylum was only shut down in 1996.
Deliver Us From Evil was as creepy as I was expecting, and honestly leaves you with such a sense of frustration in realizing how high up the corruption and conspiracy goes, with regards to child molestation in the church. Just sickening.

Oooh, I'm having a Bad Catholic week myself, courtesy of Netflix. Must be that time of year or something.

Hot Fuzz.
How did I never hear how awesome this movie would be? I've been trying all day to find ways to say "...naaarp?" to people.

Watching Underworld for the first time.
Now that's! the kind of werewolf change I wanna see! Lots of blood and pain and screaming! None of that pansy jumping in the air and magically, painlessly transforming in a ball of light like in Blood and Chocolate.
Its awesome. I love me a good action movie. Or at least an entertaining one.
ETA: But wow, did >>Scott Speedman adapt to his new half-Vampire half-Werewolf powers fast and did anyone else notice how Kate Beckinsale's plastice body suit and hair cut resembled his super power blue skin and hair cut? Or am I reading too much into that?<<

Secretary. I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal's performance, and dear God, is she gorgeous, but the rest of the movie left me cold. I can't put my finger on what exactly I disliked, but something about the movie felt very unauthentic and false to me.

I think that's just how being totally goth works.

Tonight I watched Wild At Heart, which brought the wtf as much as most any David Lynch film. What the fuck is with Nicolas Cage's voice? Why all the Wizard of Oz references? Why did David Lynch bother trying to give it a plot? How the fuck did they get Willem Dafoe's teeth like that? What the fuck was with Diane Ladd, and why was she acting like the star of a substance abuse tv movie?
I remember, when I was a young child of perhaps seven, I used to walk by this movie's case at the video store every visit and wonder about it. Maybe it was the cover, or the way the actors looked, or just the title, but I really wanted to see it.
Now that I've seen it, I'm glad I didn't see it as a child, because I don't think I could have handled the weirdness as a seven year old.

I rented Fever Pitch and was surprised by how much I liked it, as I usually don't care for Jimmy Fallon, but he was quite charming in this. I usually like baseball movies despite not watching the sport too much. I thought it was sweet how <<he made a total ass of himself meeting her parents for the first time, but then made it up to her by taking them to golf and breakfast the next day.>>

Shut up and Sing, the doc on the Dixie Chicks and the post-Bush bashing incident. It was pretty good. I don't know how you get on stage, though, when there's a specific threat made against your life. Scary stuff.
