We saw Happy Feet last night. I liked it at first, but then I got really, really bored. It was about 25 minutes too long for me. And please--Brittany Murphy as the best singing penguin, like, ever? BWAH! I don't think so.

Totally late on this one, but HI. I KNOW. Faramir is my favourite in the books and in the movies, even though they messed with the character for the movies. He's hot just on paper, and David Wenham... Guh.

Frankly, I'm not sure Mumbles that was good a dancer. I mean, alright for a penguin--fulfulling the minimum quotient of cute an animal must meet in order to not deserve our slaughter, but he's no king jitterbug.

Well, fair enough, Sky, but it's not like they have Arthur Murray dance centres at the south pole. I mean, who did he have to gain mad skillz from?

Oh, totally. A little while ago I saw the movie Better Than Sex, which is basically just one long weekend romp, captured on film, and he and the female lead were completely watchable, and their chemistry completely carried the movie. The movie had nothing really profound to say, I suppose, but it was a fun couple of hours. And you see a lot of him.

Just put Children of Men and The Good Shepherd back into their little red envelopes.
The former was just heartbreaking and beautifully done. I count it among the better movies I've seen in the last 18 months. But I'm a slut for post-apocalyptic stuff, so my opinion doesn't count for much.
The latter was fascinating from a historical standpoint but somewhat disappointing from a film making perspective. If Kevin Smith doesn't move his camera it's because he's a bad director, but when Robert DeNiro does it, he's brilliant and edgy. Doesn't wash. I don't always demand a kinetic camera, but I need something other than cuts to break up a visual monotony.

I haven't heard too many reviews of DeNiro's work as "edgey". Maybe more...disciplined? It's not just about the camera moving, but what kinds of shots that are taken, and what signifigance they have. Smith probably got better reviews when he first started out--a lot of the criticism is about his seeming lack of grwoth.

A criticism I heartily agree with, sadly.
I don't think DeNiro's a bad director... I just wish the camera work had been more inspired. I'm sure that it was supposed to echo Damon's tightly controlled character and comment on the era that witnessed the birth of the CIA, but it was also rather yawn inducing. :)

The script has been floating around for over a decade, and as much as some people might complain that writing had devolved since then, I do think there will be something about older elements that just feel...off when competiting with their successors.

Just returned Children of Men and American Dreamz to Netflix.
I thought Children of Men was incredible. I'm a bit sad now that I didn't get a chance to see it in the theater; that must have been amazing.
American Dreamz was pretty entertaining. I rented it for Mandy Moore, and she was very amusing in it.

Just rented Article 99 and it was scary how prescient it was: dramedy set in a VA hospital.

We watched Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny last night. Rather, I watched the first half and then realized that I was neither A) stoned or B) a boy, and ended up cleaning the kitchen. Seriously, the first half was fun - Meatloaf! - but I was totally over it by the time Jack Black stormed out of the diner.
It is always entertaining to see Tim Robbins doing some random weird shit, though (see also: Anchorman). I love that he doesn't always take himself v.v. seriously.

I agree. I loved his little part in High Fidelity.

Oh, as the ultimate new age asshole? He was awesome. Loved him. Also I remember when he popped up in Austin Powers: The Spy who Shagged me as the President.
