Tonight? The Simpson's Movie. I laughed so hard I may have hurt myself.
Tomorrow? Stardust
Netflix, how I've missed thee.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. This is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Just remembering some of the scenes makes me laugh. And I seriously hope that Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer will do another movie together. They have great chemistry.

Duma about a boy who finds and raises a cheetah cub and then has to return him to the wild. I know it sounds like something you've seen before and it does follow along the usual "returning an animal to the wild" film conventions, but I have to recommend it if only for the gorgeous cinematography. And actually it was quite good. It was a little reminiscent of Walkabout, although in my son's words "Duma wasn't boring" and The Bush Baby, which I hadn't thought about in years.

I saw Duma a couple years ago, and it's a shame it got buried, because it's really probably the best of the "lost animal" subgenre I have seen in a long, long time.

. It makes me sad that I had to explain that to my friend (she doesn't get out much...)

Bon Cop Bad Cop was huge up here. Made a lot of money.
and Duma was fantastic, I saw it on an airplane and just was so into it. Also Campbell Scott really did grow into an interesting actor (I mean, he has been for a while, see Rodger Dodger which almost got him an Oscar nom) and its always nice to see him in something.

History Boys and Amazing Grace. Really liked them both, though the latter could've been due to my irrational love for Ioan Gruffudd.
Season 2 of Weeds is up next.

Just today I watched Hairspray (07) and Dreamgirls.
I liked Hairspray more than I thought I would, but still love the original a bit more. Niki Blonsky is great, John Travolta was ok, and Zac Efron was not good. Not bad, but definitely not as good as the original. I loved Chris Walken as Mr. Turnblad, especially when he was giving Velma Von Tussle romantic advice using his store's merchandise. She's so utterly unimpressed. It was a little long.
I like Dreamgirls a lot, but Beyonce was definitely not as good as Jennifer Hudson. Yes, Jennifer got to the more emotional song and story, but I didn't think B's singing or acting was all that great. Eddie Murphy was great as was Jamie Foxx. Thought it was a tad too long. Ok, we get it the Dreams went to onto stardom without Effie, how much of that do we need to be beaten over the head with it.

Lord of War, How come when Nicolas Cage makes a good, interesting movie like this, no one sees it? But Ghostrider is a huge hit? Really? Its just enouraging him in the wrong direction. And Ethan Hawke make be a jackass but he can act, is like, my new mantra, so it applyes here too, probably the best role Bridget Moynahans ever gonna get (and she works it) and I was reminded that Jared Leto, once upon a time, used to be an interesting actor, not an famewhore with a bad emo band.

I have two theories:
1) Cage is a huge fan with the car-tinkering midlife crisis set. He's like, their God. And they're probably more happy to follow him around to his big dumb action movies.
2) The obligatory irony clause in his contract with Satan. Or, under the name Cage works with him most often, Jerry Bruckhemier.

Nanny McPhee. There's no kids in the house so I can't pretend it was for them but I don't care! It was a lovely film, so much fun. Watching it made me happy. Emma Thompson and Colin Firth were brilliant. And there wasn't one annoying child actor on screen.

Eastern Promises, which I thought was quite good. There were a few plot points that were surprising, or at least they kind of went in a different direction than I thought they were going to go in. And I knew that there was a naked fight scene but it was more naked than I would have (or could have imagined.)

Georgia Rule which just bugged me on so many levels. Lohan's character was SUCH A BITCH, and I just could not figure out why everyone was so in love with her and wanted to take care of her and blahblahblah. I really liked Jane Fonda, but she just could not save it. UGH.
ETA: Also, the main story line >>of Lohan's stepdaddy molesting her since she was twelve<< was just not handled well. There was too much is she lying or not going on that no one could really deal with the horror of that situation. And why do I want to watch a comedy (dramedy?) about that? I am just not sure that it belongs in a "feel good movie."
isiscloud- 12-26-2007
EggSpreader, a friend said she and someone else rented that movie and didn't get the "feel good" part of Georgia Rules either. I try not to watch any "feel good" movies since I find most of them cringeworthy or not all that "feel goody."
I can't even get through Fried Green Tomatoes. However, I have seen parts of Nanny McPhee and it captured my attention. Was that a "feel good" movie???

I don't know why I'd never seen Wet Hot American Summer, and aside from the weird sound (some places the dialogue is louder than others) it is fantastic.
