Wes Craven's The Last House on the Left. Scariest fucking movie I've seen in my life, even if the plot was almost completely ripped off of The Virgin Spring. I can't believe the guy who directed cheese like the Freddy Kreuger movies could make something as genuinely frightening as this earlier film. The acting is bad, but not enough to take away from the nightmarish effect of the events.

I have wanted to see that movie for a while, because it's got such a reputation, but anything rapey really bothers me, so I haven't.

Um. I think it's best described as an interesting concept, but definitely underachieved HUGELY in execution. And if you want to enjoy the movie at all, it is ABSOLUTELY vital that you not spoil yourself.
Other than being 20 years apart in age, and sexing eachother up within 1 day of meeting (for no apparent reason), Nic Cage and Jessica Biel were both fine. I have no idea how Julianne Moore was in this movie, but she was mainly just kinda pissed off and yelling. My movie-viewing friend said she was 'bitter' at the end, and that's a good statement. Decent action, cool stunts, but ultimately you are left bitter about the entire experience.
Oh, and Cage's hair plugs aren't nearly as odd looking as they are in the trailer for National Treasure 2. But he's still shot a good portion of the time from the forehead down.

Robotech: Spending an entire series chuckling at Jason Varitek I had to see it again. This is the first time I've seen more than pieces of it since the original run when I was a kid.
Held up surprisingly well unlike plenty of other childhood favorites. The pall of tragedy hanging over the series wasn't anything you'd find in Transformers, and it technically leagues above the American contemporaries.
Minmei is as unwatchable as ever. I can stop my teeth gritting if i think of her as Brittney Spears c.2000 and knowing she'll be in custody battles with Lynn Kyle over there inbred kids.

We Are Marshall. It definitely made me cry, but it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Loved Matthew Fox though and thought his performance was the standout of the film.

Dirty Harry, which I've been wanting to see for quite some time now. The movie was pretty good, and Clint Eastwood was badass as Harry. The blood used in the movie looked really fake; at times it just looked like red paint. And I was disappointed that Harry's famous "Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?" monologue was delivered twice in the film; it felt a little cheap and recycled the second time. Otherwise, good stuff.

I SOOOOOO believe those anecdotes about theatre crowds cheering when Callahan tortured Scorpio. I remember the MST3K guys joking Andrew Robinson was even scarier as Liberace.
Sick and OnDemmanding punched up junior high/arrested development favorite Commando. it would be the destitute man's Die Hard if it hadn't come out three years prior and it's not really on anything. Good for some pure mainline action, laughing at nick tortelli being the deposed dictator of a Banana Republic and Ahnuld breaking his word to Sully.

I dont know. When Clint gets badassy he can scare me. Even now.
And I still laugh everytime I think of Ah-Nuld and Alyssa Milano's utopian society with the deer feeding. What the fuck.
mrinsouciance- 11-12-2007
Back in the day, my personal vision of a utopian society involved Alyssa Milano. Arnold and the deer? Not so much.
RiverThames- 11-13-2007
Heh. I like you, mrinsouciance. I kill you last.
Kiran- 11-14-2007
Remember when I said I'd kill you last, mrinsouciance? I lied.
mrinsouciance- 11-14-2007
Now, no need to squabble about who gets to kill me. There's plenty of room in line, no need to -
Heyyy, waitaminnit ...

Little Children which was a bit of a mixed bag. Great performances all round, the disocvery of a new actor (and ass) to lust over in Patrick Wilson, but I came away from it all wondering what I was supposed to make of the story. Even now a few days later I'm still not sure.
The Dude- 11-17-2007
I may have pulled off the most depressing hat trick of movies in history The Departed, Munich and The Battle of Algiers

Wow, I'm surprised you could even muster up the will to post after that threefer.
