I just finished season 1 of The Closer and started on season 2. I don't like Brenda Leigh much at all but I love her squad. They are why I continue to watch.

You don't like Brenda?!? But...but...she's awesome.
On topic: watched Hot Fuzz last night and have total love for this film. The acting, the camera work, the story...fantastic. I laughed all the way through it I think.
Also saw Equilibrium, that Christian Bale movie from years ago, and it really sucked. Christian looked great and tried really hard, but even he couldn't rise above the pointlessness of the film. It wanted to be a great film and failed entirely. I thought Taye Diggs was especially miscast.

No, she's Kyra Sedgwick. Who can ruin an entire movie just by walking in for one scene. I've heard a lot of great things about The Closer, and might be tempted to check it out except for her.

Yes. What you said.
We have Zodiac waiting for us, but we've been distracted by Undeclared. Which, by the way, absolutely rules.

I've also noticed that many of the people I know that live in the south or are from the south can't stand her character because the accent is way too over the top. Being from the PNW myself, I guess it doesn't bother me too much.

Wait, what's wrong with Kyra Sedgwick? Well cast in Something to Talk About, great in Personal Velocity, The Woodsman and Singles. She works best as prickly characters, and hasn't gotten a lot of work given the length of her career. But when she commits to a role she's usually pretty good. (Admittedly, I haven't seen The Closer yet.) Is there something I'm missing?

Isn't Undeclared great? It captures university life so well and is insanely funny. Jason Segal owns it as Eric.

I just watched Formula 51 and Fracture. Loved Formula 51 and Fracture was really "meh." Not that exciting, and seemed really uneven.
Formula 51 was great. Love SLJ, and when you put SLJ in a British movie, you have pure gold!

You know, I don't know that I'd even given her a second thought until TNT started plastering her everywhere, but it's her mouth. I think it was ka-*test*-('")i who offered her up as a possible alternative to Heath Ledger as The Joker. But beyond just the shallowness of that statement, it's how she talks - the accent is just grating (and I'm from the PNW as well) and then we have to watch her eating all the time. I think my hate for her crystalized when I was watching LOTR on TNT and every five minutes she would walk in from the corner of the screen, shining her flashlight and chewing on a candy bar and it just... even more than annoying me, it made me a little sick. I don't know that I'd ever even seen her in anything prior to that, but afterwards I caught her in a couple of things - Secondhand Lions springs to mind first - and all I could see was her mouth.
lifeguard- 08-21-2007
Well, that's just TNT's fault (though I agree those screen-corner promos are infuriating). And the mouth is actually why I thought she was so well cast as Julia Roberts' sister in Something to Talk About. But she's really quite a good actress, when she's not shining a flashlight in your eyes while you're trying to watch TV.

Aw. I love Kyra Sedgwick. Shes a good actress imo, I like her and Kevin Bacon together, and she always seemd down to earth despite her family life and how she grew up (crazy old money).

I swear we did the same thing draining a keg and filling anything available with the beer.
Other highlights:
When he is bring steam trays of food back to the dorms
"Intercourse you!"

I'm from the south and have lived here most of my life, so her accent probably should annoy me, but I love it. It's so over the top that I can't help but be entertained, kind of like Johnny Depp in POTC. (Except, of course, less hot.)

Hee. It wasn't me, but I'll gladly take credit. That's a great catch.
Skyblade- 08-21-2007
Wilhelmina was the first to officially suggest her as the Joker. I'm against the idea, though, because I saw a production of Pagliacci with a woman in the title role, and it was eerie beyond words.
I for one won't be harping on Kyra Sedgewick, she's probably suffering enough on account of TNT xeroxing her show with Holly Hunter, who's not only better looking, but a better actress.
