Just today (I think) a big gray bar with Forumer stuff appeared at the bottom of all the SF pages. Is there any way to either get rid of it, or change the colors to match the rest of SF?

Francie Nolan- 01-14-2008
I noticed that too, along with a big "Flag Forum Violation" button. I also noticed that the font is a lot smaller on the "Jump to Page..." links. But on the plus side, I also noticed that I haven't gotten any error messages today and that everything seems to be loading quicker. Maybe there was a Forumer upgrade?

I think I've found the answer to my own question.

The forumer support staff sound extremely unsympathetic to anyone who questions the new footer. Complaints about the appearance didn't go down too well. I'm not sure our mods should even ask about this, given the way the support staff are responding -- they might delete our forum.

Man, what a bunch of jackasses those admins are over there.

BitterSweet- 01-14-2008
Got to love the if you're not doing anything wrong you have nothing to fear line. Where have I heard that one before.
This is the way most service providers are going in relying on snitching to police content due to staff shortages.
Now is the TOS itself more clear as to what is offensive content or is this also going into the I know it when I see it group or what ever can get us sued pile.

The "strictly prohibited content" of Forumer is:

QUOTE
Strictly Prohibited Content:

    * Warez / Piracy / Hacking / Viruses, or illegal mp3's
    * Adult / Obscene material
    * Depictions of Minors/Children (even minimal sexual context is not allowed)
    * Illegal Drugs / Terrorism
    * Derogatory/Slanderous/Racial/Explicit Material
    * Sharing of passwords / Serial Numbers /
    * Invasion on privacy / Impersonation of others
    * Spam / MLM
    * Harassment
    * Illegal Conduct of Any Sort

If you create a forum, it is your responsibility to make sure that no content on your forum is breaking any of the rules outlined within this document. We expect you to moderate the content of these forums regularly, otherwise your forum will be deleted.

Why Illegal Drugs / Terrorism? I don't tend to think of those things as related, unless they mean that to be read Illegal Drugs or Illegal Terrorism.

Skyblade- 01-14-2008
Of course, that makes you wonder what legal terrorism is. Perhaps they bought into those PSAs that say everytime you smoke a doobie, your suport terrorism.

I'm also wondering what "minimum" sexual conent of minors is. Like, what kind of quotas are there outside the forumer sphere.

MichiSichi- 01-14-2008
I don't understand it is there permanently or only when you commit an offence? Also if you are not in full screen mode (like I usually see SF at work) you don't see the grey bar.

particle_person- 01-15-2008
I think it's there permanently.

BitterSweet- 01-15-2008
Not the finest TOS outline I've seen.
It's possible on the "even minimal sexual content of minors" is to take care of certain cartoon art fetishes(lolicon). Which defenders will present the most tame and harmless looking images as example to the unknowing. I could link to an example but won't.

I thought it said Illegal Drugs / Tourism at first, and got very worried for the Snarkercon thread. I'm not at my best in the a.m., it has to be said.

vwlphb- 01-15-2008
Not my favorite thing ever, but tolerable. I just wonder what starts happening if people get banned, either members or spammers (we've been getting a ton of spam registrations lately). With the TOS the way it is, they could consider the site slanderous for some of the speculation about celebs, or the Jamie-Lynn Spears thread as minimal sexual content involving a minor.

But for the most part, I'm not worried. If you don't scroll down all the way, you don't even see it. I will try to fix the smaller font size on the page numbers and logged in/my controls line when you're viewing a thread.

particle_person- 01-15-2008
I just wish they'd let you adjust the CSS for it, so that it would all be the same color scheme. I guess it's not that big a deal, though.

Time to close down the Britney thread!

AND the Show and Tell thread!

Kidding, of course. I doubt anything is likely to come of this. Probably the most potential for an issue would be someone who gets bent out of shape for one reason or another and decides to enact his/her revenge by pressing the big grey button to create a little turmoil.
