I'm not sure there is a fancy dvd box set. Which is sad. I think they are just releasing it a few episodes at a time with no fancy extras since that seems to work with the Doctor Who cheap releases. Which is sad - I really hope they change their minds and get RTD to do commentaries saying what works and what doesn't (it is seriously worth getting Mine all Mine just for his commentary as he it totally honest about why it failed and what was his fault).

Having had a couple of days to absorb and reflect on the end of Torchwood, I loved it. So many wonderfully emotional moments, including the end of the first of the two episodes, which anachronism or not, was just flipping beautiful. Ianto, as ever, had less to do than most, but boy were his scenes fun. Particularly what he did when confronting Owen (he says, desperately steering clear of spoiler territory).

The final moments - how exciting! Resolution and cliffhanger at the same time.

I did wonder, after the resolution part, what they were going to do for a cliffhanger. I mean, it isn't the kind of show that would end the first series without torturing the viewers.

I wonder how they'll handle it in Torchwood, though? Will Jack actually explain anything, I wonder? He doesn't seem to be too keen on the explanations.

Someone on LJ suggested that >>the Doctor should use the TARDIS to return Jack to his office just a minute after he left. After Gwen delivers her big 'someone's taken Jack, Jack's gone' line and the team are all standing around looking dramatic, Jack should appear from his office leaving Gwen to say 'oh, maybe not then, sorry'.

The Missing Persons poster on the Torchwood site makes it look like he's gone for some time though.

They only officially commissioned the second series a few weeks ago so they may have rushed the ending (as they did with the Parting of the Ways).

It's hilarious that we were all making excuses 3 months ago and now we're all ticking off the days until it comes back. We're so cheap!

Actonbell- 01-04-2007
Eh, I'm still not totally sold on it. Not that it will keep me from downloading the new episodes as soon as they air!

DavidBedford- 01-04-2007
It certainly had its off moments, but I am very much looking forward to the next series, as well as the next run of Doctor Who.

Three things made the series utterly worthwhile for me:

The whole of the fourth episode. Ianto! Lisa! The >> pterodactyl <<!

The moment in the car between Jack and whatshisname, which was so sad and lovely.

The story in the penultimate episode with >> the two Captain Jacks << - beautiful, tragic and touching.

Plus there were the really creepy things, like the answer to the question 'Why?' in Countrycide, and basically the whole of They Keep Killing Suzie.

Have just finished watching "Captain Jack Harkness" for the third time (thank you, BBC, for repeating it every single day this week). Definitely the best of the series IMO (that I've seen - I still haven't seen They Keep Killing Suzie, which I think a lot of people liked), and I think, the episode that has absolutely got me hooked. Up until now I was largely watching it due to Dr Who withdrawal - I enjoyed it, but not so much that I desparately had to watch it every week, and the uneveness of the eps didn't help, but it's now become a must see! I really hope they keep up the quality in season 2.

>>The kiss at the end of this episode still makes me whimper (I know, he would probably have been lynched, but I'm fanwanking that no-one saw anything, because of the rift).<< Here's a clip of the final three minutes, if, like me, you are shallow and want to watch it over and over.

Hee - totally! Even over at TWoP, people are bitching like mad... but still grudgingly admitting that they want to know how it's all going to pan out.

TWOP people don't like Torchwood? *resolves never to set foot there again*.

polarbear- 01-04-2007
As far as I can tell, a lot of the people who hang on the TWoP Who boards don't seem to like anything.

QueenSix- 01-04-2007
Melk, could you post a link to the <<<Missing Person's Poster?>>> I can't find it anywhere on the site.

I'm going to be all sappy now and say that despite all the initial squeeage about Captain Jack potentially snogging everyone he came in contact with, the <<<kiss between the two Jacks in Captain Jack Harkness and in End of Days with Ianto had me going 'Aww' and then sniffle.>>>

Um, like, read the title of the website: it's Television Without Pity, okay? *is one of the more obnoxious TWoPers* ;-)

For some reason I'm put in mind of a Rowan Atkinson sketch:

"Okay! Right, well are there any questions? Yes. No, I'm afraid there aren't any toilets. If you read your Bible, you might have seen that it was damnation without relief, so if you did not go before you came, then I'm afraid you're not going to enjoy yourself very much, but then I believe that's the idea."

(Not a TWoPer, so maybe that reference is already overdone in this context. Ah well.)

Can't find a picture but here's some recurring themes you might not have noticed (the Lonely God one does seem to suggest we might be getting Proper Time Lord stuff next season of Who, which is probably one for the other thread)

QFT. I can't believe how many people over there claim to hate everything about Who and watching it makes them miserable...yet they still manage to watch every episode and post several times a day.

And indeed download it...
