Yay! Blowfish! Yay! Pterodacty! The flashback episode was bloody brilliant though I refuse to believe that UNIT has gone to the bad.

I did enjoy this episode but couldn't help thinking I'd rather be watching Torchwood 1909, in which two feisty sadistic lesbians spend their time torturing Captain Jack and wearing excellent bustles.

Watching that bit I turned to my girlfriend and said, "Apparently every generation of Torchwood needs its Ianto. Go figure."
I got a big kick out of the flashback episode, even though I think that Owen's backstory was a bit weaksauce. I can't quite put my finger on why, it just felt a bit off somehow. Tosh and Ianto had great backstory bits, though, even if the pterodactyl wrangling segment was... er... terribly silly.

Yeah, the whole Guantanamo-lite UNIT thing annoyed me as it seemed so completely pointless. Make an example of her to who? If she's that brilliant, why not put her to work immediately? Owen's didn't gel very well from what we knew of him from last season - wasn't he dismissed from his old job for inappropriate relations with a patient? I also refuse to believe that an entire building collapsed on them and everyone (except Jack) got away with only superficial injuries. Ace episode, though.
Next week: >> I really hope Captain John (yay!) has a better reason for being evil than "OMG Jack doesn't love me anymore OH NOES!!1!".<< Looks like a lot of fun, though - when is the finale actually on?
psammead- 03-24-2008
They're skipping two weeks and the finale is Friday 4th (day before Season 4 starts) on BBC2. I think they may have got themselves in a bit of a mess scheduling-wise with the BBC3 episodes (what was the point of that?) - I wonder if Who got pulled forward for some reason. Maybe a two-parter that would otherwise have been split by Eurovision?
Wilhelmina- 04-01-2008
WRT the finale spoilers: According to imdb, <<Burn Gorman>> already has a new tv series lined up. Damn.

So? Are they like >>>really, really dead and if so, were they sacked?<<
And was it really a sensible decision to leave the nuclear reactor in charge of someone who hadn't a clue and send the nuclear physicist off to deal with the weevils?
QueenSix- 04-04-2008
*sniffle* Damn you, Torchwood for making me cry! And this time I can't blame it on being doped on steroids.

Hey, it's Torchwood. You should be glad that left the nuclear reactor in charge of anyone.

Noooo, just as I >>was starting to like Owen as well. And Tosh! She really could never catch a break. That message at the end was an unashamed tug on the audience heartstrings, and it worked.<<
How bad was the actor playing Jack's brother though? He reminded me of Hayden Christensen, both in appearance and wooden acting skills.
polarbear- 04-05-2008
God, he was awful. OK, so the part wasn't great, but a better actor could really have made something of it, while he didn't sound psychotic, just bored.
Also, I gotta say: Jack, >>buried for 1900 years<< and he just shrugs it off, no problem? That could've been really, really horrifying if only Jack had had some reaction to it, but as it was I was left cold. Did like the twist with John, though.
phoebesmum- 04-05-2008
I quite thought that >> buried-Jack was going to become the Rift <<.
Other than that - gosh. >> That was ... wholesale. <<
Wilhelmina- 04-05-2008
Well, we only saw <<Toshiko die. And as she was busy being shot, there was nobody there to monitor any rift activities, for example.>> Thus, it is highly improbable, but still possible for <<Owen to still be "alive".>>
QueenSix- 04-05-2008
Oh, and the bit where Tosh says to Owen about <<<having covered for him his second week on the job, pretending to be a medic because he was hungover and he says, what was it, spacepig?>>>
I heard that right, didn't I? That was a shout out to <<<Tosh being in the DW episode "Aliens of London" and having a totally different job to what we found out she did in Torchwood?>>>
polarbear- 04-05-2008
Yeah, I caught that too - awesome! Definitely better than "identical cousins"...
