Once again Gwen seemed really rather superfluous to events, which is a shame because she played a proper role last week. I just don't understand what it is she does exactly. Jack leads, Owen's the doctor, Tosh's the technical genius, Ianto keeps everything running smoothly, and Gwen...? Is the 'heart' of the team apparently, which hardly seems like something you'd put on your CV. I want to like her, I just want her to actually have something to do instead of empathising at everybody.

Apart from that, so far series 2 is sooo much better than series 1, the plots are more coherent, and the characters much better developed. Jack's more fun, Owen's actually a likable bastard instead of just a bastard bastard, and Ianto has a brand new bitchy personality and had by far the best lines. I can't really pick one, but I think I'd have to go for the amusingly random 'we don't sniff the sebutheric resonator'. Hopefully next week they'll take the opportunity to develop Tosh.

Also I like that they appear to be getting in early with a proper story arc instead of quickly shoving one in at the last couple of episodes.

Melk, I've got one for you: "I told you, I know everything. And it says so on the bottom of the screen."

If they keep this up, Ianto 2.0 will become the most entertaining of the (mortal) TW crew by a country mile.

The tube station I use for work has fancy new plasma screens instead of dull old posters alongside the escalators and it was so funny seeing 10 Captain Jacks smirking at me then morphing into Ianto as I was carried downhill this evening.

Esseilte- 01-25-2008
Plasma screens? Whoah. See, I'm sad, because now I want to find that station just to see them. Sort of how I was really impressed the first time I saw those billboards that sort of flipped around and changed.

I still haven't been able to watch episode 2. Woe. Anything that involves Ianto getting sarcastic has to be good, though.

After episode three, I kind of want to see the adventures of 1918, possibly-actually-intelligent Torchwood, now with 80% more steampunk.

Also, I continue to like the team's personality transplants, especially non-asshole Owen.

psammead- 01-31-2008
More Ianto taking control please. Though 'romance of the week' is never as good idea as sci fi writers think. Did they ever explain what would happen if 1918 escaped into 2006? Apart from the destruction of a particularly ugly-looking bit of Cardiff industrial landscape.

If Tosh has been with Torchwood 4 years, was she already working for them in Aliens of London?

oxymoron- 02-05-2008
Okay, I just started watching this on BBC America a few weeks ago, and it is totaly cracktacular. And I can totally see the whole "We'll beat the slash fic writers to the punch" thing.

Gwynevere1- 02-05-2008
If this Spoiler is true, they really are just filiming fanfic, anymore.

Finally got around to watching the last episode. Quite liked it, despite the fact that Tosh is easily bottom of my list of the Torchwood staff. Tommy was adorable, but he looked so very young next to Tosh - who previously I would have sworn didn't have a noticeable line on her face - that I found the romance thing a bit distracting. He was supposed to be 24 or something, but he looked about eighteen. Reminded me of watching Connor and Cordy on Angel. I wish they hadn't killed him off, though. He was taken from 1918, he could plausibly have survived to the end of the war. I didn't really get that thing about freezing his memory, either. Why was that necessary? Didn't it sort of undercut the "Tommy has a job to do" part?

I did like the 1918 Torchwood people...made me think that it might be interesting to do the history of Torchwood at some point, not just as a one-off but maybe even as it's own little mini-series (hears cries of "Not ANOTHER spin-off!").

Ianto may be my new favourite person. Just saying.

psammead- 02-05-2008
Ooh, another spin-off? Do we get a vote?

epudom- 02-06-2008
Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I think the odds of poor, sweet Rhys meeting a grizzly end have just increased.

GreyDuck- 02-06-2008
That's an un-bear-able thought, epudom...

(What? I couldn't resist, I'm sorry!)

sweetle- 02-07-2008
I spent the whole episode thinking that the guy playing Tommy vaguely reminded me of Neville from the Harry Potter movies. Turns out, that would be because they're brothers.

In other news, I *heart* Ianto.

Did I miss an episode or are you all talking about an episode that hasn't aired in the states yet?
