James Marsters isn't exactly fighting type-casting is he?.

I've just had an email from my brother - "I thought it had become ridiculously camp and they are even more like the scooby-doo gang than secret government operatives than last season. the double entendres seemed to be the point with only lip service paid to making a sci-fi series".

Yep - that's exactly why this season is going to be completely awesome!

Guardian blog with the usual bitter comments attached.

Yeah, I'm glad to see that the show has just embraced the ridiculousness and is going for a more jokey tone this season rather than OMGSERIOUSPAINABOUTROBOTGIRLFRIEND. Because this is fun when it's intended to be, and that's more of a laughing-at-them sort of fun. And the team is halfway competent now! Sort of!

That's the first thing I thought of as well! It's as if the show was being written by girls on livejournal.

I've always said, it seems the entire point of Torchwood is beating fanfic to the punch.

GreyDuck- 01-17-2008
It was certainly better than I expected (especially after those teaser clips), though some parts of it made me cringe a bit. That's nothing new for Torchwood, though, so I count it as a win that there were fewer cringe-inducing moments than usual.

I'm glad they seem to be having more fun with things, and that the team really is a team now instead of a handful of bickering brats. It's a good sign that I didn't spend half the episode wanting to smack some sense into Owen, Tosh, or Gwen. Well, maybe Gwen, but she kicked a lot more ass than usual this time out so I'll forgive her some of the other stuff.

All in all, I'm looking forward to seeing how cracktacular TW S2 can really get...

I've just finished watching the new episode. Now I need to go to rehab. TV crack rehab. Cause...wow.

Any bets on when the Ianto/Blowfish shipping starts?

Starts? Please. I'm sure that started five seconds after the blowfish first appeared.

I feel like this show should be called, "Angsty Orgy Hour...with aliens."

psammead- 01-24-2008
Apparently I am Ianto - pretty, sweet and excellent at making hot beverages.. Ain't it the truth?

Wilhelmina- 01-24-2008
Just finished watching the second episode. I really appreciate Ianto 2.0 - now with added personality! And I guess it's not so bad that they have an actual arc now, instead of just running around being pretty and stupid. Even though I enjoy that. Lots.

I don't know what to make of the upcoming episode, though. Isn't that just "Out of Time" all over again? Oh well, as long as everyone is sufficiently pretty...

GreyDuck- 01-24-2008
Ianto is certainly the most-improved of the lot; we got the biggest kick out of his moments in the second episode. (Even the bit from the S2 promo which we'd viewed several times still managed to be funny for having seen it coming.)

They're not exactly coming up with never-before-seen storylines, but at least I don't want to smack every single character every single episode. So far. Gwen seems to be backsliding a bit... what happened to the tough, street-smart Temporary Torchwood-Cardiff Head Honcho? Bah.

Still: Vastly superior to the previous season. Halleluiah.
