Oh my, that is yummy.

Not related to any discussion, but Torchwood makes me think that "...and everyone's bisexual for no reason!" can be added to "They fight crime!" and "...in space!" as things that make a show just that much more awesome. The fact that Torchwood incorporates all three of these things (okay, fudging a bit on "in space!") is why I will continue to watch it regardless of the levels of ridiculousness it sometimes reaches.

Season Two confirmed. Is it too much to ask that Ianto might be in a few episodes this time? Who on earth got the idea that Owen was the hearthrob everyone wanted to see?

Actonbell- 12-12-2006
Eh. I was so looking forward to Torchwood, but from what I've seen of the season so far I'm not even happy that it's renewed. It's not awful, but it is very disappointing considering how great DW is. I expect better from RTD! Maybe it will improve with a second season, though. One can only hope, eh?

Aw! I liked this weeks' one a lot. And Gay Toshiko last week. And the final ones look terrific.

Top trivia fact - Gareth David-Lloyd played a character called Yanto Jones in RTD's Mine All Mine (which I absolutely loved though I think I'm the only person in the world who did)

On other boards, they seem very jaded and bored by <<<Eugene's father singing 'Danny Boy'>>>, but not me. I was sniffling away through the whole thing.

And I don't get the Gwen hate I see elsewhere. I like her. She's flawed but she does her best.

psammead- 12-12-2006
I was surprised to discover (from a British messageboard) that Gwen is fat. Even fatter and more grotesque than Billie, apparently.

I liked this week's a lot but it was a little too similar to Love and Monsters. Is this the first time there has been definite evidence of an afterlife in the Whoniverse?

Yeah, I hate the way that RTD seems to have this thing about obese chicks <eyeroll>.

I just don't get at all what is wrong with these people. Do they have some sort of corneal defect that makes everything look fatter than it really is? Or does it just work for girls? It's just that by no stretch of the imagination (and I have a fairly stretchy imagination) could I possibly cionsider either of those two girls fat. It's amazing what you can learn from the internet.

Also, I thoroughly approve of that photo. More, please.

I'd probably have found it more moving if I'd enjoyed the rest of episode but I'm afraid it just reminded me of a similar thing happening on Neighbours a few years ago! I found this episode boring and corny, and I didn't really warm to the guest cast. But it's the only one so far that I've actually disliked and last week's was excellent, so yay for a second season!

Gwen is not fat at all in any way! She's not my most favourite character, but I do like her, she's good hearted.

I think there are people who have looked at too many pictures of Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth etc. and now think that that's the way women are supposed to look -- unless you can see visible bones then they must be hideously fat.

Shocking Captain Jack news!! Yesterday I saw John Barrowman in concert (QueenSix - it's on Radio 2 on Friday, though I'm guessing they'll edit the orchestra having to repeat half the entr'acte) and made the disappointing discovery that laser surgery hasn't developed much in the 51st century and he needed glasses to read the autocue in Row H ('Christmas has always been a very important time of the year to me and I'd like to thank my mum and dad, who are here tonight....').

But that aside, an evening 15 feet away from the Captain is nearly perfect though I could have done without the bagpipers at the end ('I've always been very proud of my Scottish heritage')

Actonbell- 12-19-2006
Lucky you! I would have been in showtune heaven.

Oh, I could live with that. And if he wears the glasses, so much the better.

And what's wrong with bagpipers, might I ask? Or have I perchance too much of the Scot in me?

psammead- 12-19-2006
A whole bunch of bagpipers 10 feet from you? I guess I'm just too much of a Sassenach.

Certainly worth listening to the show - colonials can do so at this site. My friend complained that Captain Jack doesn't actually put his heart in his songs but I told him he didn't deserve to go concerts if that was his attitude and next time I'd take his Mum. That soon shut him up. For goodness sake, what's the point of having gay friends if you can't take them to John Barrowman singing showtunes?

Quite right, too. Failing to be properly appreciative of Captain Jack may well be a capital offence.

I saw that listing in the Radio Times actually but I had no idea it was that concert. Will definitely be tuning in.

About last Sunday's episode, I didn't hate it but I was left wondering a little what the point was in the grand scheme of Torchwood things. I'm not expecting every episode to be advancing a story arc but it was the second episode in a row where the emphasis wasn't really on the main characters. I wonder if the episodes were supposed to be aired in a different order or something.
