| So, the Jack poster (thanks for posting) -- does that mean he'll be missing from Torchwood for some time? Like, an episode (or more) without him, where the rest of the crew have to cope by themselves? |
I don't think so. I think RTD said he'll be coming back at once (but he might think he's been gone longer in the traditional manner of time travellers). Or he'll come back and find someone else in charge (it would be awesome if they got Sarah Jane who, frankly, would be much better at the job). But I'm fairly sure he's coming back in episode 1 or 2.
Where does the missing poster come from? Because it says Last Seen in February but surely the final Torchwood was set in December (didn't they mention it being before Christmas?) I think they've been fairly careful to set it all between Army of Ghosts and Runaway Bride so as not to interfere with Doctor Who continuity.
Speaking of which - I just loved that the memory-wiping drug is called
retcon.
Thanks for the Queer as Folk stuff. I didn't really understand about the wankiness of net fandom in those days. So much catching up...
The missing poster originally came from the hub - I can't find it there now (though I could a couple of days ago, but the hub is bloody annoying sometimes), but someone on LJ screencapped it. There was a certain amount of discussion over at TWoP about when the first episode of next season would be set, and I think RTD mentioned in an interview (in the Who magazine?) that from Jack's POV, >>his entrance on Doctor Who would take place seconds after the ending of the Torchwood finale, but there was no word on how long he'd be gone from Torchwood's POV<< . I imagine he'll spend no more than an episode off-screen while we see how the team copes without him (kind of like the beginning of Buffy season 3).
February makes no sense whatsoever, assuming Torchwood ends before Christmas and Who starts again in April (although I suppose exact time matters less when you've got a Tardis!).

Hee.

Wasn't it episode 10 (with the folk from the rift/past) that was set at Christmas? I'm sure I saw a Christmas tree at some point.
I thought so - didn't someone say it was Christmas Eve?
So what were they up to during the Runaway Bride? Or did nobody in authority notice that the >>Thames drained itself<<
I like to think that Tosh and Ianto dealt with that and didn't bother to tell any of the others. Though it was a fairly short time between >>the Thames draining and the spaceship being destroyed<< so maybe they wouldn't have got to London in time to do anything anyway.
OK, so someone on TWoP has just written an
insanely detailed thesis on
Cyberwoman as
Oedipus Rex of all things. Which is really rather awesome (I can't decide if this is the latent classic geek speaking, or merely the fact it's 6am and I haven't slept yet, but it's a darned sight better than grace.)
Well obviously I can't be bothered to read it all (though I note that it ends with LOL at the poster's own joke which is always a sure sign of idiocy, IMO) but isn't the key point about Oedipus Rex that the hero sets out to solve a crime and then discovers he's the murderer? Which is really more applicable to the events of Army of Ghosts / Doomsday (though RTD has admitted that he messed up slightly in explaining that). Oh, and all that stuff about the fact that you can't avoid your own fate and sometimes you're just doomed to have a crappy life. Which I guess does sum up Ianto.
But couldn't you adapt any episode to a myth? Ianto and Jack are Achilles and Patroclus and the gay alien who seduces Toshiko is Mephistopheles.
Eh, at least it's something to read other than longtimers bitching about how they're being picked on because no-one else agrees with them that the show is a bucket of shit so bad the scripts should be burned then scattered and the earth salted to get rid of the evil because the show is just that bad and anyone who disagrees was obviously watching a different show, and Jacob apologizing to them?
To think I just watch for the pretty boys kissing and running around shooting and playing action hero.

I like Jacob, but this is my only criticism of him as a mod: he has done too much to cater to the diehard Who/Torchwoot fans who try to shout down any poster who actually likes either show. I don't know if he's deferring to them because some of them know a lot about the history of the show, or what.
Hee! I know a ridiculous amount about the history of the show (to the extent that I can spot errors in
so-called error free histories) but I still watch Torchwood and think 'Ooh, Ianto - so pretty - more. screen. time - ooh look - Jack kissing Ianto 6 minutes before the end of the series - Yay - is it next Autumn yet?'
So, I was reading the Psychotic Fans thread, and the discussion about the gamers made some posters think of the South Park episode. But it made me think of something from one of the recent Torchwood books, 'Another Life.' >>>Some of them get into a 'Second Life' type game. Owen accidentally chooses to be a large breasted woman. Ianto is a giraffe. A fat giraffe. There's a description of him exiting the game, turning back into Ianto (Tosh has rigged it to be more real) with just his little tail wagging. Also much J/I flirting in that one.<<<
Torchwood makes Fandom Wank. Did
this poster actually watch the Eccleston season? Wasn't the
whole point about Bad Wolf that nobody noticed it until about episode 7?
I watched the whole first season of Torchwood this weekend and I liked it. There are certain things that bugged a bit, but there were others that were awesome, so it kinda evens out for me. My favorite episodes were "Countrycide" and "They keep killing Suzie", because they were creepy and gripping. My least favorite episodes were "Random shoes" (too similar to "Love & Monsters) and "Out of Time", because it just felt like filler.
I like Gwen, but they really should stop hammering the whole "Queen of Empathy" thing home. We get it, she has a heart. Owen falling in love with a women he's known all of one week? Not very believable, if you ask me. Plus that he'd turn all stalkerboy through space and time, opening the rift for her, being all mopey for the rest of series was annoying. I like Toshiko. Sure, there's room for character development, but the last two episodes helped making her more human for me. Captain Jack was entertaining to watch, flirting, unsure how to lead people, lost, trying to find meaning, heroic, all in the course of series 1. What's the deal with the stopwatch? Ianto, pretty pretty Ianto. The few times he had a plot, I liked him and I would like to see more of him in series 2.
