You know what watersport looks insane to me? Waterpolo. How do you tread water for that long, while swimming side to side to throw a soccerball at a net, while eleven behemoth's are trying to drown you?

Poor LoLo Jones!  She had the race in her hands.  I'm amazed she was able to still finish after clipping a hurdle.  I now must find an olympic genetic pairing match for her because she's frickin' gorgeous.

Jeremy Wariner?

Noooooo!!!! He has crazy serial killer eyes! That's why he's always in sunglasses!

After seeing Yang Wei ham it up for the camera, would asking him to star in a gymnastics movie be too much?

No, I don't think so.

PineappleGirl- 08-20-2008
I don't know why NBC thought we needed commentators for the gymnastics showcase. They are just so stupid. I just wanted to watch gymnastics, not listen to more drivel from the announcers!

jcpdiesel21- 08-20-2008
Seriously! I was looking forward to the championship gala because I thought there would be no commentators. Is there a way to mute the commentary and listen to everything else? I am SO tired of Al, Tim and Elfi. I wish they would just shut up! This should just be a fun time watching the routines without any interruption.

I freaking love Jonathan Horton. He did such a great routine on the high bar last night, and it was such a huge risk to try such a new routine. And I can't believe the crowd booed his score! Shades of Alexei Nemov in 2004 there.

Wait... only five gymnasts participated in the championship gala? I wanted to see more! I remember that being a much bigger deal in the past.

Watching the NBC commentators try to interview the US sprinter who had just been disqualified after thinking he won bronze--that was just cruel. What on earth did they think they were going to get him to say? They JUST disqualified him, and the interview was basically this:

"So, you've been disqualified. When did you find out?"
"...just now, [numbnuts]."
"And what are your emotions?"
"[What do you think my emotions are, you stupid cretin? I'm going to f#&$%g hurt somebody! I'm f@#*%#g pissed off!] I have no emotions. I'm numb."
Dead air.

Like, really.

Arrrgh - pipped at the post again in the open water race! If only he'd managed to stay straight!

Then again it's apparently only his third ever 10k race, so I'd imagine David Davies is pretty pleased with his silver medal.

(And yes I am wide awake in the middle of the night. Again.)

Binky- 08-20-2008
The female diving commentator/interviewer...kinda a bitch?

jcpdiesel21- 08-20-2008
Yeah, that post-race interview with Wallace Spearmon immediately after he found out he got disqualified was the most fruitless interview I've ever seen. What did they expect him to say? He didn't really know anything at that point.

Did anyone else see the footage of Walter Dix being notified that he had been bumped up to the bronze medal due to the two disqualifications? He didn't react very much while being told, and when his agent reacted happily, he said "I still lost!" with a sheepish expression. Heh! That's got to be a weird situation.

Usain Bolt is awesome. I love how he can be clowning around and having fun one minute, but can shut it off so easily to focus on the race. He is so exciting to watch, and it seems impossible for anyone to stop him since he's such a great runner and has such a good stride since he's so tall.

Does anyone know when the BMX finals will be held? I was looking forward to seeing that tonight, but the rain postponed the event.

Water Polo is definitely the "naughtiest" game there is. I played it as a youth but also took part in many other sports (e.g. rugby). When I played Waterpolo, we always wore 2 pairs of trunks so that hopefully we would have at least one set intact on at the the end of the game (and also the more important pair!!!).

Yikes!

From what I saw tonight, I was under the impression that the crowd booed the score because it was low. And yeah, there is no reason for commenting on the gala. I was pleasantly surprised by the Chinese horse routine. Good to see a sense of humor from a person (nation) that our coverage is absolutely convinced has no humor.

I loved Walter Dix's response to his bronze. It was so honest and outright funny. "I still lost."

Yes, if you take out the "kinda." She's like some of the skating commentators I loathe - very sour grape-y because these darn kids are better than she ever was.

Yikes!

The Hungary-USSR match at the '56 games is still legendary for its violence having occured after the Soviet supression of the Hungarian revolution.

You know what you never see? Someone heckle a diver.

Dammit Walsh and May!

That 200m was awesome and so is Bolt, I agree that his confidence is endearing rather than offputting to me at least. I felt bad for Spearmon and Chudry(?).

Waterpolo is awesome we used to play it in school and the school team had so many tricks (one was to grow your big toenail really long and file it pointy to stab oponents) .

I can't believe Nastia performed to a song from Anastasia. This makes me love her just that much more.
