A bronze for men's pommel horse! The first time we've ever medalled in individual gymnastics!

Smith got a medal? That's fantastic - I had to go out, but I had my fingers crossed for him the whole time. I'd love it if Beth Tweddle medalled tomorrow on the uneven bars, it seems like she's been coming really close for years but never quite making it. It is so bizarre that we're third in the medal table; I doubt it will last as I don't think we're so strong in athletics, but at the moment I'm enjoying it!

Watching the equestrian events, it occurred to me: How the hell do they get all these horses to the games? So I looked it up. Wow.

I don't really understand the events, but I love watching the equestrians

I hadn't even realised he'd made it to the final so I had a very pleasant surprise when he popped up!

Yeah, it'd be great if Beth managed something. It must be so hard to always be so close. I like the bars and beam best, so I'm looking forward to watching those - except that I have to go out tomorrow so I might miss them.

I think we've got a few hopefuls in the track and field events, so while I'd be surprised if we stay third, we might not drop too far. Especially since the countries that are right behind us (Germany esp) aren't that renowned for athletics either.

Bolt was incredible. He got a bad start, danced over the line sideways after relaxing with about 20 metres to go and yet he still beat the world record! He knows he can run faster, he's going to tease us with what he can actually do and I can't wait to see it.

I was pleased for the sprinter from Trinidad and Tobago who came in second. He looked so happy!

We got a meeeeedal! We got a meeeedal! *does happy dance*

Tweddle's in with a good chance, apparently. And GB should get at least one more cycling gold, and (hopefully) men's triple jump. There are also three GB men's high jump finalists. And the relays could be good for GB...

As for medal rankings - well, as a Kiwi I'm all about the per capita calculations!

I'm sorry, Kindred. I can't read that article because my mind insists that a "Trans-Tasman" is a Shemale Shedevil. And then I can't stop laughing.

This has been such an amazing weekend for Great Britain. I'm so happy for Louis Smith! Ben Ainslie is brilliant, the rowers have done well and our cyclists are supreme. And Nadal just won gold which I'm also thrilled about.

Though to listen to the commentator, you'd think Smith was complete rubbish.

LOL A response from TWoP about the evil that is Andrea Joyce during the swimming events and how Phelps could end her:

QUOTE
Andrea is a devil in disguise, but what she didn't know is that Phelps already signed his contract with a different demon.

Phelps is an avatar of Leviathan, blessed of Poseidon and Triton, adopted son of Mazu, thrall of Dagon, and the Loch Ness monster's second cousin. Andrea's infernal power is no match for his divine force!

Michael Phelps and his mom and sisters make me aw. They all clearly adore each other and its nice. I also am really happy for Phelps, he just seems really nice and gracious (his off camera embarassed laughing when Costas was going on about him was great). Plus I have to love him for this alone. You can just see Wintour itching to do a makeover.

However during that immediate interview he did with Bob Costas I feared for him. Bob was shooting him the crazy intense fatal attraction eyes for a couple of minutes there.

mrinsouciance- 08-17-2008
I'm trying to picture Bob Costas boiling Phelps' bunny.

Hes gonna show up at Lily Donaldson's house, and take her niece or whatever for a freaky ass rollercoaster ride.

nikita- 08-17-2008
I really don't like the men's floor exercise. It just looks so...awkward.

ETA: I can't believe Alicia Sacramone placed 4th! That is such bullshit.

jcpdiesel21- 08-17-2008
I've got to agree with Bela Karolyi: rip-off, double-heartache and all, regarding the women's vault. Fei Cheng's scores for her second vault were way too high, especially considering her poor landing and fall. Alicia should have gotten the bronze. How disappointing for her.

Binky- 08-17-2008
Seriously. The Chinese girl landed on her ass.

Bela is going crazy.

I do like that a woman in all likelihood 20 years older than most of the Chinese team won Gold.
