I'll give a big WOOOO! to the 38-year-old women's marathon winner. Take THAT, twenty-somethings! She was magnificent.

What can I say about every single US swimmer who earned their medals (in the relays and the individuals tonight) that everyone else has not been said?
So, so happy for everyone. Including Michael Phelps.

| The women's marathon just started and I just hope that this time round it's less traumatic for Paula Radcliffe. |
Well she finished this time, so at least she can lay that demon to rest. I hope she hasn't done herself any permanent damage, running with a barely recovered injury. On the plus side, she's seen that you can win at the age of 38, so I hope she carries on until London.
In happier news, two more golds on the water! Oh wait, Ben Ainslie just won - make that three!
And we still have the cycling to come. It feels very un-British to have so much success...

I know! It's like the world's turned upside down or something. We're third in the medals table! We're beating Australia! It's so so weird!
Another gold and a silver in cycling, another two silvers in rowing! I'm actually feeling really patriotic for once!
I feel a little sorry for the other British woman in the marathon, who I believe came sixth, because her achievement (the best finish for a British woman in an Olympic marathon) is being almost ignored because of the whole Paula Radcliffe thing. But then I find Paula quite annoying.

I didn't catch his name but I've just watched a Russian gymnast in the floor exercises who is six foot. He must tower over all the rest of the guys.
Carmine- 08-17-2008
Was he the guy who got bronze? I thought he was pretty tasty. The Israeli guy who came last was over 6ft too, I think.
psammead- 08-17-2008
Might have been - they all looked the same height on the podium! The little Chinese guy was very cute!
Carmine- 08-17-2008
Are you watching the women's vault? Anna Pavlova just got 0 for her second vault!
I'm impressed with the German woman - I think she's over 30, which is pretty amazing.
The Chinese guy looked so young next to the other guys! He's only 20, bless him!

That was so sad about the vault but I suppose they have to go by the rules. The German is on her fifth Olympics!

A bronze for men's pommel horse! The first time we've ever medalled in individual gymnastics!
It's brilliant what Oksana Chusovitina has done - she's showing the world that gymasts don't have to retire at 20.

This has been such an amazing weekend for Great Britain. I'm so happy for Louis Smith! Ben Ainslie is brilliant, the rowers have done well and our cyclists are supreme. And Nadal just won gold which I'm also thrilled about.

WOO HOO LOUIS SMITH! That is the most fantastic news. My husband and his business partner have been working with the elite Olympic coaches for the past four news, so this is the most brilliant news for Louis, for the sport itself, and for my husband's business!!

I'm very happy fore Michael Phelps. I'm a bit sick of all of the media, but that's not his fault, and he certainly deserves praise. As does his mother, who I love, for holding up two fingers and then practically fainting when she found out he beat Cavic.
I'm normally not into he running events too much- but I was mesmerized by the women's marathon. I honestly can't think of anyting worse in the world, so watching these women do that was amazing. I was in awe.
I used to play softball competitively- in travelling clubs, then high school, and then part of college. My little sister is a club pitcher who had a decent shot of getting a scholarship to play in college. And watching the Olympics (and other women's softball events- most of which are only on t.v. at 2am) has always been awesome. It's sad that it won't be in the '12, especially because, although the US dominates, other teams certainly give them a good fight (especially Canada). I kinda see why they did it- but softball's only been in since '96- maybe they should give it a few more games to see if the playing field evens out.

Watching the marathon is terrifying. Even with a duff leg, Paula Radcliffe ran it twice as fast as I'm likely to manage. Eek!

Woo, Michael Phelps! Way to go on breaking the record! I was tense during that entire final relay, knowing that it would be close between the U.S. and Australia. And I loved the reaction shots of Ian Thorpe in the stands, probably feeling quite sheepish about his statements before the Olympics about how there was no way Phelps could win seven, much less eight, gold medals this year.
I was pleased to see Dara Torres get two silver medals last night. Why do they schedule some of these events so close together, so there is little time to recover from one event to compete in another, especially if you win a medal? I was annoyed by the commentator who chided Dara for tearing up on the medals stand for the 50m, saying that she shouldn't let herself get emotional and keep focused on her next race. Let her have her moment, man!
