Scarlettfish, they were SO unlucky in the coxless four! Awesome race.
One of our cyclists is into the gold medal race for the men's individual pursuit, so we're guaranteed a silver at least (gold looks unlikely - the race is against Bradley Wiggin, who pretty much wipes the floor with everybody).

Woohoo, our coxless fours never let us down, even without Redgrave and Pinsent! Gold three Olympics in a row now.
We are rocking the velodrome as usual. Good morning so far except for the sailing being called off, again. And Adlington! Amazing race by her, she broke the longest standing world record in swimming. Our first swimmer to win 2 golds for 100 years.

It's evidently not really the Olympics for me until I'm shouting at the screen, supporting the coxless four men. Note to self - get tickets for this in 4 years time...
The track cycling all seems to be going to plan - guaranteed gold and silver in the women's pursuit, Bradley Wiggins continues to dominate, and Chris Hoy should do the same.
I'm trying to work out when I'm going to have a long enough break to eat and shower. Minor details...

Today's the best day for both NZ and GB - both do so well in cycling and rowing, and I'm supporting both (although NZ more, obv!), so it's all good in my hood!

I am so sad not to see Carlina Kluft this year in the heptathalon, I know she said she didn't feel like it anymore but I love watching her...oh well must find new favorite now.
ETA I am enjoying these 100m so many potential winners.

I'm really impressed by the GB performance today - so far, 4 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronzes! And we'd have even more if the sailing hadn't been cancelled. Yay, Team GB!

I picked the best day to stay up through the night and watch.
I think I will need to sleep after the 100m final, so will watch the tennis until then, and will then give myself a break. And by break I mean catch the irst games of the new Premiership season.
One of the commentators (John Inverdale for those of us in the UK) was saying that he was speaking to one of the Aussie commentators who apparently is petrified that GB will finish higher than Australia in the medals table. Heh.

It's been such a great day. I just wish the sailing had got finished, I really want Ainslie to win his third gold.
I'm excited for Federer, him and Wawrinka are a set and a break up. I really hope they win, the Olympics clearly mean so much to him.

Has anyone been watching the soccer? Men's semi-final Brazil vs Cameroon was fatiguing. It was a dirty game, about half the players got yellow carded, and one Cameroon player actually got sent off. But even then, Brazil still couldn't score during the match proper. It went into extra time, and finally Brazil scored. Actually, by then I didn't care who scored, as long as it didn't go to penalties.
Oh no, am I turning into a soccer fan? I just wanted the match to be over. Somehow it sucked it in and made me watch it against my will. I kept changing back to Seven, but they kept giving me running and rowing and swimming. It's Channel Seven's fault I watched the soccer, okay?
I really couldn't bring myself to watch the next soccer match. I'm sure I would have been up half the night, swearing at the TV.
As much as I like the Olympics, I sort of really want them to be over, so everything can go back to normal. Anyone else feel like that?

Damn, just how quickly could Usain Bolt run if he was being challenged all the way?
Wow.

The men's doubles tennis final is going on longer than expected. Obviously I'm rooting for the Swiss. Color me impressed with the way Wawrinka is playing. Before the Olympic Games, I've only been aware of him because of the Davis cup. I had no idea that he's cracked the ATP Top 10. I do hope they win for Roger's sake. A medal in the doubles wasn't what he really wanted, but certainly better than nothing.

I'm pleased that Federer has won something this year.
He should play doubles more often - he seems more relaxed whilst doing so, and seems a lot more animated on the court.
darthtall- 08-16-2008
I'd like to see them play as a doubles team more often, too, if only because they have the most ridiculously cute victory celebration ever. You can see a bit of it
here - Warwrinka is so good, he's on fire! So Roger warms his hands over him! And then they flop on the ground in a hug
and go make out in the locker room! Plus, the Swiss press has apparently already given them a smushed pairing name, like they're writing fanfic - Federinka.
It's so weird to me to see Federer so... exuberant. Weird, and awesome. (He's usually so stoic that I couldn't resist poking a little fun at him via
modified lolcat the other day.)

It's amusing me to no end that there's an Italian soccer player named Acquafresca.
MichiSichi- 08-16-2008
I am so happy for Federer. And I agree with epudom I really want to know how fast Bolt could have run.
