I cannot believe Phelps just won that! His mother's shocked reaction was priceless as was Rowdy Gaines'.

Phelps looked pretty shocked himself! That race couldn't have been any closer.

I thought his mother was going to pass out when they showed that Phelps came in first. I can't imagine the feelings his family goes through when they watch him race.

So not only do I see Phelps get the closest win of his life, I also get to see a British swimmer, Rebecca Adlington, obliterate the 19 year old world 800m freestyle record.

I think the adrenaline will keep me going for a few more hours...

I know that Phelps' touch-out was crazy, but I wished the NBC guys could stop talking about it for eight minutes to give respect to Rebecca Adlington.

The Serbians are pro-*test*-('")ing the result? I don't see what there is to pro-*test*-('"). How do you argue with an electronic touchpad?

I wonder if the touchpad didn't work. It looked like the Serbian touches first too me, but hey, I'm just going by my eyes.

Congrats to Michael! It's like it's meant to be now.

At first I thought Cavic (I keep thinking that the commentators are saying "cabbage" when they say his name) touched the wall first, too, but in the replays, you can see Phelps took an extra stroke at the end of the race that got him to the wall a teeny tiny bit faster than Cavic did. That was an incredible win for Michael Phelps.

WTF was with NBC talking about the results of that race and taking a commercial break in the middle of the women's 800m freestyle?

I'm sure Michael Phelps also recognizes just how super duper close that was, and I'm sure he's going to be very gracious. He seems to really respect all of his competitors.

That race was over 8 minutes long. Surely you don't expect NBC to cover eight whole minutes in a row? Without commercials or a Little Natalia sob story? Are you crazy? Plus you're putting a lot of faith in the American attention span.

Scary thing is NBC's improved quite a bit with these games, the nadir being 0% live, more fluff than a baker Sydney 2000.

COME ON THE KIWI GIRLS! The Evers-Swindell twins just won the women's double skulls (rowing), beating the German crew (who had led from the start) by one one-hundredths of a second. Awesome - it's NZ's first gold at the Games.
