canada hasn't won a single medal yet?

Well the 100m Brag about Socialized medicine is coming up.

Mongolia got a gold. They lose the distinction of the country with the most medals without a gold.

My colleague from New Zealand is sad that they have not won a medal yet, especially since this year they had the most people competing.

Yeah Canada is...disappointing me.

This is adorable.

Just watched the Nadal v Djokovic - or more accurately, Spain v Serbia semi final, and it was cool to see just how much representing their countries meant to both guys - Rafa seemed more excited to make the final than he's done winning all the Grand Slams, and Djokovic was actually in tears as he walked off the court.

Yeah, it was a great match. I love how much they seem to care about the competition, especially after there has been a bit of bitching in the press about the tennis players not belonging at the Olympics etc. because they just see it as another tournament. I don't think any of the big 3 have treated it like that. You could see how ecstatic Federer was to make the doubles final. I think especially with Rafa and Novak, neither of their countries are doing well in the medals table (Serbia have none although that should change in the swimming today), so they will be thrilled to help out by winning one.

That is why I really want Djokovic to get bronze, even though I'm not a fan. He was very upset after his loss and I think he deserves a medal.

The joke I made was Team Canada found a comprimise on a boycott. They'll go but don't expect them to put much effort into it.

I think I know what may be part of Canada's problem. I was just watching the equestrian event and a Canadian jumper had a horse named Special Ed.

I think that horse belongs in the other Olympics.

I'm so happy for both Nastia and Shawn. I liked Shawn a little bit better after the team competition, since she seems so cool under pressure, but now I'm a fan of Nastia as well. She was just amazing last night in all of her routines and completely deserved to win gold.

Bela Karolyi is immensely entertaining. I very much enjoyed seeing his emotions on full display during Nastia's floor exercise routine. Can we please dump Al, Tim and Elfi as commentators and have Bela instead? Gymnastics would be much more entertaining to watch.

I can't get over how wee Shawn Johnson is. Bob Costas was interviewing Shawn and Nastia and they were sitting on a sofa and Shawn Johnson's feet were about three inches off the floor. And I can't believe Nastia is only 5'3" (at least that's what I've read). She looks to be at least three inches taller than that. I guess because she's got that long, lean build. They're both so adorable and I love that they truly seem like friends and very supportive of each other and that's it not all just PR.

jcpdiesel21- 08-15-2008
Nastia is only 5'3"?! That makes Shawn practically pocket-sized.

Binky- 08-15-2008
Seriously. Is Shawn even above 5'?

nikita- 08-15-2008
She's 4'9".

I just got in after seeing some shows in the festival, and am going to see just how long I can stay awake. If nothing else I should be able to see some swimming finals live, but then I risk missing all of today's rowing finals - I believe there are British rowers in 10 different finals this weekend.

I think Michael Phelps just broke Rowdy Gaines. All he could do was make sputtering noises at the end of that race.

"Michael Phelps is magic!" was pretty hysterical though.
