And so glad to see Sasha finally not fuck it up! By the coverage on NBC I would have thought that there were only 3 teams on the floor last night.
There were three? I thought only the US and China were competing.
Oh, yeah, I guess Japan had a couple of guys there.
NBC coverage sucks.

NZ is usually a power in the sailing events, aren't they?
That's not been too bad in the past, but they aren't doing much this time round. And we didn't get any three day eventing medals, which is a shame. But heigh ho!

I loved how the announcers kept saying how Sasha sucks on the pommel horse and how he was their last chance to salvage a medal and so on and so on and then he did his routine and freaking KICKED ASS. It was awesome.
Indeed, that pommel horse routine was awesome. Has he screwed up on that routine several times before? It was mesmerizing to watch; I don't remember seeing a pommel horse routine with legs flying around so much in the air. I'll also echo the praise for Justin Spring's incredible high bar routine. At one point, he was swinging with ONE ARM! Crazy! Now I'm incredibly excited to see both the all-around and individual event competitions. Do they still do the exhibition after the competition, where the gymnasts do their routines in funky outfits and to more popular music? That was always a blast to watch.

When the US gymnasts were celebrating after learning they'd won bronze, they kept repeating to the camera, "Never give up," and one of them completed my thought by adding "Never surrender." Galaxy Quest reference FTW! (FTBronze?)
I don't like watching water polo because it looks so hard. Games like basketball and soccer are tough enough without having to swim and tread water and have water splashing in your face the whole time.
Why do women's beach volleyball players wear bikinis?

Some of the cameras they have on the diving are frickin amazing. The one that follows them from the board all the way down to underwater is crazy awesome.

They said the kick-ass guy on pommel horse was inconsistent in his routine, plus he hadn't done anything all competition so it could be awesome or uh-oh.
We know that awesome made an appearance.

I have no idea, but I like it. Actually, this morning I found out that the Georgian team are actually Brazilians. Because I was looking at them and thinking, 'They look less east European than I expected.'
On another note, look at the people in the strength competitions. Weightlifting, hammer throw, that sort of thing. Why do they look like they're on the advanced beer and pies diet?

Because there is a God, that's why.

The men's relay race in swimming was insane. They beat the world record by five seconds. What.
On a related note: is Michael Phelps even human? Seriously, has anyone verified this?
Genevieve- 08-12-2008
His Father was part mer-man.
Truefax.
komalow- 08-12-2008
Whenever the underwater camera pans up to his body as he's swimming, he legitimately looks like a mer-man. His knees and his his feet look . . . well, "not human" is really the only way I can describe it. (Apparently he's "double-jointed at the knees". Say what?)
I never thought I could be so attracted to a mer-man prior to these Olympic games.

So the Romanian women won the bronze medal. Too bad we didn't see any of it except for one bar routine.
Scarlettfish- 08-12-2008
Yay for my uni! Grant Brits, one of the bronze medal winning swimmers in the mens 4x200m relay, goes to my uni and trains at my gym!

Which we probably wouldn't have seen either, if the scores didn't take forever to come up. I think they only showed that bar routine so they would have something to focus on other than the US and China standing around waiting for scores.
Also, Bela Karolyi? Everyone already knows about the underage controversy on the Chinese women's team. There's no need to keep making digs at them about it every chance you get.

Aww, I feel so bad for Alicia Sacramone. Poor thing, she looks devastated.
