E I E I O?

It totally works with that one.

Omigosh, this Tom Daley is so wee!

Ha, I love the gymnastics commentators, because they're so nuts. The three of them have been doing it since at least 1996, and it's amazing the way they absolutely REVERE some of the gymnasts, who usually end up falling on their asses right after their OH SO TRAGIC LIFE STORY WITH TINKLY SAD MUSIC has been played.
God, I love gymnastics.

When the divers dive in real time during synchronized diving, I always think, "That was perfect and amazing!" Then they show the dive in slow motion multiple times and you can see all of the errors, and what initially looked awesome isn't so great after all. I have no idea how the judges are able to evaluate a dive that takes place in a matter of seconds and pick up how well the dive is executed and how synchronized the divers are.

Jonathan Horton is cute and spry, but the poor boy barely has a neck. The commentators just brought up Alexei Nemov; I miss Sexy Alexei! He was a really classy gymnast.

Way to go, Leisel Jones! It looked like that race was incredibly easy for her, and it's nice that she finally got her gold medal.

Hey, Ian Thorpe! Nice to see you!

Scarlettfish- 08-11-2008
I'm so happy for Leisel Jones! Given the beating she was given in the press after she looked disappointed to miss out on the gold in Athens, this must be very sweet for her indeed.

I was trying to make it work to the tune of "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt," but no go.

Whenever we go out
The people always shout
There goes Pieter Cornelis Martijn van den Hoogenband!

Nope, crap, too many syllables now.

Just sing "Piiiiieeeeeeter van den Hoogenband"! That's what I did.

I like the gymnastics team cause of when they get all caught up in the moment and go "THAT WAS CRAZY HARD!"

jcpdiesel21- 08-11-2008
Woo, U.S. men's gymnastics team! They were thrilled to get bronze. And neckless and all, I love Jonathan Horton for his impromptu messages into the camera to the fans back home.

Also? The Chinese men's gymnastics team kicked ass and took names tonight.

I'm glad no one affiliated with Chinese men's gymnastics is going to kill themselves. I'm glad their strategy of building a big lead in the events they're awesome at and then being conservative on the high bar worked.

I was moved by the third American alternate weeping in the stands. You know he was so proud of his teammates, maybe a little sad he wasn't able to be up there with them, and he just couldn't keep it inside.

Lindsay Weir- 08-12-2008
Wow, that was a great gymnastics meet. Loved seeing Raj finally get his medal! Some of the Chinese work was unreal, and it was great to see the excitement of the rag-tag US team.

I was glad I got to see most of the important routines (between NBC, CBC, and the CBC live feed), but it was kind of exhausting. I don't know if I can keep doing this! But I did get to catch the stuff that happened during the swimming, which I don't blame the networks for cutting to. Also, Kyle Shewfelt's commentary was a nice addition and gave the CBC coverage a little new flavour. As much as NBC can be overwrought, the CBC can be underwrought at times.

PineappleGirl- 08-12-2008
The US Men's Gymnastics Team is ADORABLE. They are all just so excited and happy and I want to give them all hugs. (They are also so tiny, especially Raj. He looked so little on that podium!)

Also, I spent the local news break not watching the news, but watching the 1996 women's gymnastics team final on youtube. I still find it pretty amazing, even 12 years later.

MichiSichi- 08-12-2008
I guess I am lucky with commentators.. I watch Eurosport, and the commentators are great there, although I try to avoid them when the UK is competing for something because they get too emotionally involved, the other day in the women's gymnastics one of the commentators goes " excuse me while I don't speak for a while" poor thing.

Just so you know, I've been humming this song all day. It will NOT leave my head.

MUAHAHAHA. :D

Huzzah for the US Men! I am torn between my desire to lick Justin Spring and my desire to pick up Sascha Artemov and put him in my pocket. Socuteandtinyomg.

sunshine95- 08-12-2008
Did you guys hear one of the commentators (it was one of the men) bitching about one of the Japanese gymnasts who messed up? "I don't like to see athletes laughing after they've made a mistake." (I'm paraphrasing.)

Seriously, dude? What an asshole.
