| I've been listening a lot to the Bond themes and I think my favorite is "Nobody Does it Better," since it isn't cheesy or over the top in its arrangement, and is a legitimately good song that can exist outside of the Bond universe. |
Aww, I like the over-the-top themes (I LOVE singing Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, and Thunderball at the top of my lungs in the shower... god only knows what the neighbors think).
I'm partial to "The World is Not Enough" by Garbage. That's a belter in the car.
Although the Shirley Bassey ones are hard to match, I love the instrumental theme to On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
Plus, Duran Duran's title track to A View to a Kill was easily the best thing about that train wreck.
What, no love for "Live and Let Die?"
"And in this ever changing world in which we live in...."
Oh, I know! "Live and Let Die" is epic!
And while she's totally guilty of trying to emulate Shirley Bassey, I love Sheryl Crow's "Tomorrow Never Dies".
People! What about Garbage's The World is Not Enough? How can we miss that song? It's sexy, epic and sad all at the same time!
Oh, and I love A View to A Kill simply for Grace Jones as Mayday. She was the shit.
And I'm also bummed that my favorite geeky eye-candy, Brutus, won't be back as Mr. Moneypenny.

Unlucky Bear mentioned it a few posts up.
It occurred to me last night that with Harry Potter being moved to next year, the only 'must see' movie on my list is now Quantum of Solace. I have high hopes.
It's funny the topic's veered to the songs - I downloaded some Bond themes last week!
I love "The Spy Who Loved", the Shirley Bassey songs and "You Know My Name", and of course, Dr No ;)
Has anyone see the new trailer?

Eh, that one doesn't quite work for me. I don't think Sheryl has the pipes necessary to really pull off a Bond theme.
I like Tina Turner's "GoldenEye" and Gladys Knight's "License to Kill." They're both a little cheesy, but sassy in a fun way. And I'm a little ashamed to admit this, but I like a-ha's "The Living Daylights." It's cool in a retro way.
The Bond theme is my ringtone and I never tire of hearing it, though I suspect others disagree with me on that point.
Extract of the new
theme.I'm trying not to judge until I hear the entire song, but it isn't blowing me away so far.
It's hard to judge without multicolored silhouettes of naked women on the screen.
This link to "
Another Way to Die" still seems to be working.
Has anyone else been able to listen to "Another Way to Die" in its entirety? I think it was released on iTunes on September 30th. I've listened to it a handful of times and I think it's my new least favorite Bond theme. I had really high hopes for it since I like both Jack White and Alicia Keys, and was really excited about a collaboration between the two of them. It's very messy, and doesn't balance the guitar, piano and horns very well. Maybe it'll work better within the movie.
I just listened to the theme for the first time and it is pretty horrible, jcpdiesel. There's too much noise, especially from the brass. Maybe it will work in context - I didn't like Die Another Day until I saw the movie - but I'm not hopeful.
