big chicken- 02-07-2007
I love breaking out into "I had a dream my life would be/So very different from this hell I'm living" once in a while.
I got The Drowsy Chaperone from the library and I like it. It seems sort of short though. I think my favorite song is "An Accident Waiting to Happen".

| I looooove The Last 5 Years! I basically love anything with Norbert and/or Sherie in it though. I especially love belting "A Summer in Ohio" and "Better than That". And also, I love Norbert. Rarr. |
EEHHHHHH! One of my favorite musicals!
I just did lighting for this show over the summer. So fucking good. I lovelovelove the soundtrack, which is really the entire show. A Miracle Would Happen is probably my favorite song, other than Schmuel which I like because its adorable. And possibly because I used a special for the clock. That made me happy.
Anything Goes is really good. My high school is doing that as they're spring play. I know it will be horrible, but I'm definitely seeing it over my Spring Break,
Joseph...Dreamcoat is really good, too. I'm kinda sad I'm no longer working at my old theatre since that's one of the summer shows.
Into the Woods is fantastic. There are no worrds.

You know those metal police barricades that are all over Manhattan? I have a friend that busts out into Les Mis whenever she sees one. Makes roaming Times Square super fun.
I also love the Schmuel song from The Last Five Years. Especially how Norbert gets all old-mannish when he does Schmuel's voice. So cute. Plus the very end always makes me cry... "Have I mentioned today/ how lucky I am/ to be in love with you?" Sigh.
Oh by the way, apparently Sherie Rene Scott is going to be Ursula in the Broadway version of The Little Mermaid. Which kind of sucks for me because now I'm going to have to go see it. And since it's Disney I'm sure they won't be doing any rush/lotto discounts on tickets. Of course, since Sherie's been cast I'm just waiting to hear what part Norbert's getting. Those two do everything together!

My favorite line is when he switches the song to talk about Cathy.
Maybe it's just that you're afraid to go out on to a limb-ovich
Also, your friend sounds super fun.
evilmaidel- 02-16-2007
She totally is. She has a hat that makes her look very much like Eponine (y'all know what I mean) and now whenever she wears it she calls it her street urchin look. All she's missing is the dirt all over her face and the whole unrequited love thing.

Have you ever heard/seen a live version of the show? I have a video bootleg (shhhh) and the way Norbert does the line is adorable, kind of wincing like Jamie knows the pun/joke is super cheesy, but he's still trying to make a point with what he's saying. It's just really goofy and endearing. That man is disturbingly talented. I would have killed to see him back when he was in Rent.
Kiran- 02-16-2007
My favorite is Shiksa Goddess "If you had a pierced tongue that wouldnt matter/ If you once were in jail or were a man/ If your mother and your brother had relations with each other and your father was connected to the Gotti Clan/ I'd say...well...nobodys perfect"
And I love how Norbert says he and Sherie were brother and sister in a past life. Incestous brother and sister.

I never saw the original version. But everyone else who worked on the show I did had seen it.
The actor playing Jamie delievered it with a look on his face: "eh? eh? yea, I know it sucked."
Maaaan. I need to harass that director and get a copy of our version!
spidey_88- 02-16-2007
I saw Norbert in Rent! And he was awesome!
McMexican- 02-18-2007
I do love me some Last 5 Years - though it does have all kinds of weird, sad parallels for me now that I've broken up with the boyfriend who introduced me to it. Sigh. Anyway. . .
Has anyone else here heard Alan Menken's Weird Romance?

I didin't really like Into the Woods. However, I didn't see it live, but on video, which is hugely different, but still did nothing for me.
The concert version of Sweeney Todd with George Hearn, Patti Lupone, and Neil Patrick Harris is swoonworthy.
Saw Evil Dead: The Musical for the second time last Saturday. It's going on tour, which is good, but it means I can't see it again. Great songs, great cast, fun effects.

That's awesome - I've always wanted to see this show live; it's nice to know there are other productions of it out there and I hope to catch one some time.

I'm so jealous! I've seen my fair share of great Rogers but I bet Norbert would have been my favorite because he hits the trifecta of everything Roger should be - powerful voice, great actor, and smoking hot. There's an absolutely gorgeous picture of him as Roger in the Rent bible where he's just sitting there holding the guitar before One Song Glory, and the first time I saw it I literally just stared at it for a good fifteen minutes. So pretty!
When did he say that he and Sherie were like incestuous siblings? That is just so awesome I really don't know what to do with myself.
isiscloud, did you sit in the splatter zone when you saw Evil Dead? A friend of mine saw the show recently and her stagedoor pictures are hilarious because she's totally drenched in fake blood whilst posing happily with cast members.

I think its just starting to get out into the "community theatre" world. I know we were only the second theatre to produce it in NJ.
It was a fantastic experience, working on it. I'd definitely keep an eye out in the coming summer, I have a feeling it's going to be everywhere. And colleges. My friend just ran a production of it at Muhlenberg.
Also, the thing that absolutely blew me out of the water the first time I heard the full soundtrack (which was at our finale dress with full orchestra) was that there was a cello. I thought it was so beautiful and completely unexpected. And so rare, in the theatre. So good.

No, unfortunately! They were already sold out when I purchased my tickets. I think everyone in the theater Saturday night had seen it at least once already (as I had) if not more!
Better than Rocky Horror Picture Show? Different. People knew where to chime in, but no actual performing along with it. I've heard there are play-alongs with Grease the movie.
The Lady of Shalott- 02-23-2007
Jersey Boys is coming to Chicago this fall, and I am ludicrously excited. I cannot WAIT to see it.
Hey, I heard on the radio that there's a musical version of Gone with the Wind coming to Broadway. True? False? Has anyone heard anything, or were the radio DJs passing me along false information?

an unnamed group of producers has secured the rights for the sprawling southern epic from the Margaret Mitchell estate in hopes of a 2008 production. No names attached to the project were mentioned.
The planned musical take on the story — made famous by the 1939 film starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh — is purportedly using the original novel as a source moreso than the movie. |
