I think I have a blind spot for Byrne (he was the only Bhaer I liked!) so it kinda comes in to play here.
Hot Goth Mordred was the best thing ever though.
Well, I finally watched the rest of it. And enjoyed it! Once I got over my pique about Gabriel Byrne, everyone else was good. Nathan Gunn = super hot and awesome. Mordred was a scream and I LOVED his "Seven Deadly Virtues." I managed to overloook Fran Drescher (and I forgot she doesn't sing anything anyway). And I actually thought Christopher Lloyd was great as Pellinore. The three knights were good too (all they have to do is sing and look strapping), especially Lionel, the last one (he did those two tasks the best, I thought). Too bad Marin Mazzie goofed the last verse a little, but everyone recovered nicely. I loved the staging of that song and of "The Lusty Month of May."
Good times! I'm glad I finished it. I still don't understand the casting of Gabriel Byrne, but, eh. (And I love him too -- this is the first thing I haven't liked him in. Siiiiiiigh, Into the West.)
Holy CRAP the Broadway Showstoppers concert was awesome. Raul Esparza and Kristin Chenoweth are incredibly cute together, even though I normally dislike her a little. He did "Soliloquy" from Carousel, "Being Alive" from Company and she did "Ice Cream" from She Loves Me and "Glitter and Be Gay" from Candide. Then together, they sang "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" from Annie Get Your Gun and "Tonight" from West Side Story. Also Michel Bell sang "Old Man River" and J. Mark McVey did "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis. The NY Philharmonic (with Marvin Hamlisch) performed "There's No Business Like Show Business", selections from My Fair Lady, and the unused overture from A Chorus Line.
I am in theater geek heaven.
Very cool. I'm wondering though if they'll release them on dvd which could be even cooler.
spidey, that sounds awesome. And I agree - I like Cheno, but not so much her range and what she usually sings.
Kiran, I was just coming over here to post that. I'm so excited!
I saw
Passing Strange last night and it completely blew my mind. Amazing.
Lucky! I so want to see that and "In The Heights"
In other news I've gotten readdicted to Bat Boy the Musical again.
Saw Sundays in the Park with George. I loved Jenna Russell especially as Marie (she played two characters), the projections used to make the stage a canvas, but not much else. The plot was thin and the music sounded the same after a while. I like atonal music in small doses.
Aw, I just got my Sunday ticket for NYC trip next weekend. Although I know I love the score (with the exception of the weird dog thing in The Day Off), so hopefully I'll like the production more.
I think I'm seeing that as a matinee, and then that evening, for something completely different, I'm seeing Xanadu. That's my brother's choice--he's a big ELO fan.
If you like the score then I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself, harvey the penguin.
Aw, I'm sad that you did not like it, tothemax, but the score is kind of an acquired taste. I adored it when I saw it back in previews in February.
I'm stoked that [title of show] is coming to Broadway! I saw the first ad for it yesterday and it made me all excited.
When is the right time to cancel a once popular musical? When Stephen Collins and Drew Lachey are your stars. I won't be seeing Spamalot anytime soon.
Tonys tomorrow! Original cast of Rent's performing! I'm excited.
Musicals that make fun of musicals are never my cup of tea anyway, although I think Spamalot would attract celebrities more than other shows, since it started with such a mainstream cast, so it might not have necessarily jumped the shark yet.
Woo! Tony day!
I'm watching the Tony dress rehearsals online and it is further cementing my love for Michael Cerveris, who never fails to be completely awesome.
Watch it online here. It's on now (roughly 9:30AM eastcoast time).
Now I really want to see "In the Heights"; that was a really good song they performed.
