I'm loving [title of show]. I almost busted out laughing at work while listening to it on headphones.
Also, I absolutely adore the revival recording of Sweeney Todd (even more than the original). I don't know how anything (even Johnny Depp) will be able to top it.

Ok, so a friend gave me Children of Eden by Stephen Schwartz and it is SO GOOD. Could someone please put on a production of it in DC? Please!? And can I do lighting for it because I have so many ideas. *sigh* Was anyone lucky enough to see the PaperMill production of it? |
Oh, I love Children of Eden. I never did manage to get to see the actual production but the music is great. Nobody ever seems to do it anymore, though!
We got free tickets to see Dirty Rotten Scoundrels tonight. I really hope I'm not too exhausted.
Spamalot was awesome. The only name I remember off the top of my head is Esther Stilwell as The Lady of the Lake - she was really great - but everyone was top notch. Oh! And the guy playing Lancelot - who, incidentally, is
HOT - was in Sweet Land. So points for that.
So....guess who has tickets to see Mandy Patinkin and Patti Lupone in concert?
ME!!!
OMG, I am like, crazy green with envy.
Between Idina Menzel on the Wicked cast recording and Eden Espinosa, whom I saw in the actual show, I prefer Eden. I think she has a stronger voice so she doesn't sound so nasally when she hits the high notes, like Idina does. I wish it was her on the recording though Idina isn't too shabby either.

And even though I like most of the songs, "No Good Deed" is my favorite, even though it's not so much with the upbeat.
No Good Deed is totally my favorite song in Wicked. (And it's superfun to belt out in the car.) Plus seeing it live is amazing what with the crazy green smoke and evil glinty eyes and dramatic cape whipping. Thinking about that makes me remember what a gorgeous show Wicked is and now I kind of want to see it again.

I know it's supposed to be, "anonymous and gone tomorrow" at the end of the song, but I hear, "anonymous and gone tomoooow".
I think Adam Pascal is just really, really bad at pronouncing shit.

Also, In my head I know Aida isnt actually that great of a show, but damn do I love it.
Word. I mean, some of the dialogue in Aida sounds straight out of a bad fanfic and yet somehow I totally buy it. And want more. I've been known to go to hideously miscast, super amateur performances of this show just to get my fix. I almost went to check out the recent tour but when I heard they were going all modern with the costumes, props and scenery (Radames in jeans? What?) I didn't think I could handle it.

Heather Headley is amazing (Easy as Life is KILLER). I know shes got a good recording career but she NEEDS to come back to broadway.
Okay. While it is true that nobody comes close to Heather Headley's "Easy As Life", you know who actually did a great version of that song? Toni Braxton. No joke, but for awhile there I was only listening to her version - it's really haunting. They lowered the key, so lots of Broadway snobs aren't into that, but seriously, it is amazing. If I wasn't at work right now I'd upload it and force y'all to download.

Does anyone remember the big non soundtrack Aida cd Elton John put out with all the pop stars singing the musical? Like him and Leanne Rimes bring the cheese on "Written in the Stars". And the Spice Girls do "My Strongest Suit."
I remember that CD and it is AWFUL. Holy crap. I regret even taking it out of the library, and that was FREE. That's how bad it was.

I thought Taboo was a hot mess and a half, but that the actors rocked it.
It makes me happy to hear you liked the cast because one of my favorite people ever,
Cary Shields, was in the OBC. He played Marcus and sang "I See Through You". He's also my all-time favorite Roger in Rent (yes, I love him more than Pascal!) but had a rather unfortunate mental breakdown a couple years ago and now he is a host at a restaurant in the city and nowhere near Broadway. Funny how that works.

REALLY! Man, that's awful. Too bad, I've heard some of his singing and it's not bad.

Heh. Good, it's not just my copy.

I went to a production two years ago. It was surprisingly good, and the Radames had 6 pack abs, so of course he just pranced around in a skirt. It was great.

Yeah, Eden's quite good too. Hopefully she'll manage to get a good show sooner or later.

Oh, can we link to something like sendspace here? Because perhaps I wanted to share something. Theoretically. :shifty eyes:
I just got tickets for Gypsy next week at the State Theatre! I'm so psyched! I've always been fond of this show and I've never seen it live.
Ooh, jealous. I've never seen it either - there hasn't been a professional production in London since Angela Lansbury did it back in the early 1970s.
In other news,
Rent Remixed has got mostly
terrible reviews.

Yeah it's sad, although I still keep up with him by stalking his
MySpace(he writes amazing blogs. batshit crazy, but amazing.) and going to his gigs (any time I drunk post here, it's because of him), and he seems to have a sense of humor about the whole thing now. I would still really love to see him back on Broadway. Don't see it happening now though - I can't imagine a producer who'd want to hire a lead actor that walks out of the theatre 5 minutes before a performance and never comes back.
(By the way, fun fact - after he came back from his breakdown, he dated Petra Nemcova for awhile. Which is funny to me because she went on afterwards to date James Blunt, who I'd always referred to as the ugly version of Cary Shields. Heh.)

LUCKY. My Radames was so unattractive it was painful. And Aida was about 4 feet shorter than him. I spent the entire first act praying they wouldn't be all up on each other during "Elaborate Lives". I think my Amneris was good, though. She definitely had the best voice out of all of them.

Yeah I kind of wondered that myself. I guess we could always resort to PM's, if bootleg stuff isn't allowed here.
Tonight, I have tickets to see Grease. I'm a little bit scared because I've only heard bad things. But I'm somewhat friendly with someone in the ensemble and it's her birthday, so if not now, when? The only good thing is I got student rush tickets so they were cheaper than I expected.
Bootlegs and any kind of warez are prohibited here, but you can PM all you like and there are some great LJ communities where trading is done.
Aaah. Will someone please surgically remove the opening song from Legally Blonde from my head? I obtained the MTV broadcast and only listened to the very beginning, and now I'm going around singing "Oh my god, oh my god you guys" over and over and over...
It's ridiculously catchy.
Aaand...on the subject of the Rent Remixed reviews, my personal favourite quote from those reviews was "Mimi is supposed to die at the end, not in the first scene". OUCH.
I remember a few years back when Cary Shields was being touted as the next Adam Pascal, Broadway it boy and then nothing happened. Sad to hear that. If only because hes wicked hot.
I heard Toni Braxton was good in Aida. And yeah the show itself is like really, really bad. Its like Elton John was like "Lets get three really hot actors and have them do a love story!" "Ooh good idea? Whats it about." "I dont know...AIDA! We'll do Aida, but yeah, it'll be poppy, and it'll have them reincarnated in the future in the beginning and end so it'll still be kinda happy, and we'll sex it up! and oh yes, Disney will go crazy for it!"
And sex it up they did. When I saw it Pascal and Headley got all up on each other. Which was cool, cause they are both crazy attractive people. As is Sherie Rene Scott. Damn, that was a hot cast.
It shouldnt make me happy that Rent Remixed is not going over well, but I'm totally cackling.

I don't think Aida is bad bad, just kinda there. Not too memorable. Which is sad, because the story is cool and it should be the recipe for a really good show.
