It's true, much of my Aida love is from the truly awesome Heather Headley and Sherie Rene Scott. But still! Adam Pascal did have amaaaaazing chemistry with Heather Headley. I have this ghetto video bootleg of the OBC and holy crap, I've practically worn out "Elaborate Lives" when they're all up on each other and singing and whatnot. Good times.
In fact, my Heather Headley love has now expanded to The Lion King, which I've never even seen - but there is a video of her performing
Shadowland live on Letterman years ago and it is just beautiful. Seeing that video makes me realize how casting her as Aida was probably a no-brainer because she is just so regal and dignified, how could she play anything other than a princess?

The only problem with this plan is that my dad would be seething with jealousy. Not about the Pascal thing, but I think he has a slight man-crush on Jesse L. Martin. Well can you blame him?

That was my plan freshmen year of college. I used to print out pictures of him from the internet and post him all over my bulletin board. My roommate thought I was crazy.
Jesus that was ten years ago.

I don't think he was married then. Engaged, maybe. You should've taken your shot when you had the chance! :shaking head:
Great. Now I'm listening to "Like Father Like Son." Man, "evil's a distinctive smell" is a really bad lyric.

The
Show Business: The Road To Broadway DVD comes out tomorrow and I'm psyched for it! It's all about the mounting of 4 shows in the 2004 season (Taboo, Caroline or Change, Wicked, and Avenue Q) and how they did that season.
I cannot wait for them to air
Company on PBS. Last I heard, there is no concrete airdate, but PBS stated that it would likely be in February or March. I missed it on Broadway, but from the grainy YouTube bootlegs, the show looks gorgeous and I cannot wait to see a clean copy of it. I will absolutely buy it on DVD when it becomes available and I'll probably watch it until I wear it out.

Oooh! That looks great! (Although I see they are going to cover "Taboo". I wonder if we'll get angry Rosie. I remember reading a quote by her that audiences didn't give the show a chance. Quite accusatory.)

Nyaahahaha. It is. But I like how Pascal kind of sneers that line. He's good at that.
I'm also looking forward to that DVD - I remember hearing about it ages ago, glad it's finally out.

While Rosie is kind of... yeah. I do have to say that I have a bunch of friends that just looooved Taboo. I think there were a lot of behind the scenes issues with that show (like Rosie herself) that may have been more of a factor in its tanking. Never saw the show myself but that's what I've always heard. And I can definitely believe it, since I've seen plenty of other good shows go down like that.

I saw Wicked for the first time this past Saturday and have been listening to the soundtrack several times a day since then. Most of the songs are so upbeat and damn catchy, too!
ulkis- 10-15-2007
woo! Wicked is pretty. And even though I like most of the songs, "No Good Deed" is my favorite, even though it's not so much with the upbeat. But the violins! Or cellos! Whatever string instrument is playing, they're awesome.
OK, I'm still listening to Aida hours later, and I've got to ask, at the end of "Enchantment Passing Through", does Adam mess up on anyone else's disc? I know it's supposed to be, "anonymous and gone tomorrow" at the end of the song, but I hear, "anonymous and gone tomoooow". I always thought maybe it was messed up cause I downloaded the song off napster . . .

Hells NO!!
I also took out City of Angels last weekend, too. I actually saw the original with Richard Kline (Larry from Three's Company). "You can always count on me," "What you don't know about women," "The Tennis Son." Memories...
For some reason, I always forget about PBS. When I do go past it, there's rarely something I want to watch. You'd think with three PBS stations that I'd find something! Ohhh...Company..."anything you can do, I can better" "it's the children you destroy together..."

Its cool. Adam Pascal is still my Broadway boyfriend. Love him.
Apparently the movie does cover Rosie craziness, and it also deals with the other big non big 4 events of that year (Hugh Jackman, Ellen Burstyn's show shutting down after one day, Donna Murphy getting all sick). The section of Caroline or Change and Tonya Pinkins rebuilding her life is supposed to be really poingant.
Also, In my head I know Aida isnt actually that great of a show, but damn do I love it. And yeah Sherie Scott rocks, Adam Pascal is dreamy and Heather Headley is amazing (Easy as Life is KILLER). I know shes got a good recording career but she NEEDS to come back to broadway.
Does anyone remember the big non soundtrack Aida cd Elton John put out with all the pop stars singing the musical? Like him and Leanne Rimes bring the cheese on "Written in the Stars". And the Spice Girls do "My Strongest Suit."

The cast albums for Taboo in both London and NY are very good, even though the show was quite different in each location. Plus, Taboo has Raśl who, to me, is even more swoon-worthy than Adam...
Kiran- 10-15-2007
I thought Taboo was a hot mess and a half, but that the actors rocked it.
Also, yes, Raul Esparza, his crazy talent, his omnisexuality, and his fucked up personal life are all very very hot (I think hes back together with his wife. I saw them and the Tonys and was all "Really, sweetie? Even after that NY Times article he did where he talked about his sexual confusion? Oh who am I kidding, so would I.")
spidey_88- 10-15-2007
Actually, she just accompanies him to things. Rumor has it, he's got a boyfriend who is a chorus boy in The Ritz.
But I did love his speech at the Drama Desk awards where he thanked his wife for putting up with him and everything he put her through last year.

Ok, so a friend gave me Children of Eden by Stephen Schwartz and it is SO GOOD. Could someone please put on a production of it in DC? Please!? And can I do lighting for it because I have so many ideas. *sigh* Was anyone lucky enough to see the PaperMill production of it?
I've also fallen in love with Songs for A New World by Jason Robert Brown.
