I love Idina but I actually like Adam's solo stuff more than hers. I dont know. He never did a techno version of like, Fortune Favors the Brave and that counts for a lot with me.

Hee! To be totally truthful I either love Idina's songs or I hate them, there is no in between. I love "Follow if You Lead", "Larissa's Lagoon", and "Damsel in Distress". A lot of the stuff on "Still I can't be Still" is too, I dunno, mellow techno for me though. I do think she was pressured into doing that remix of Defying Gravity unfortunately.

Maybe he could go back to Disney and be like, Prince Eric in the new Little Mermaid musical if it doenst suck.

I wonder how big the part is though. I guess it has to be fairly big. I am very excited for Little Mermaid. I have a feeling it will be good. Sherie Renee Scott as Ursula alone is enough to get me to wanna see it.

I wonder why Adam never decided to play Fiyero? He could probably do that if he wanted to.

ETA: To say I just read that interview, and awww. I love Adam Pascal. And I have to say I find it adorable the original Rent cast is so close still.

I know. If I wrote RPF, it would be about them. *g*

You know whose CD I actually like? Kristen Chenoweths. The non religious one. Girl in Apartment 13 is really funny, and vocally amazing.

Really? I'll have to check it out.

The Girl in 14G? That's an excellent song and I hear it's even more amazing when she sings it live. Kind of like you can't believe all those voices are coming out of that little person.

I also love If and Let Yourself Go and On A Turquoise Cloud.

Let Yourself Go

evilmaidel- 08-06-2007
I loooove The Girl in 14G! There's a video on YouTube of Kristin performing it on Rosie's show way back when and it's awesome - the crowd started cheering in the middle of the song because of her general kickass-ness.

I didn't, however, think that the Maureen that was wonderful. (Nicolette something?) Considering that they had a drop-dead gorgeous Joanne, Maureen was kind of butch in comparison.

Aw, I love Nicolette! She's actually the only Maureen that's ever made me laugh at Over the Moon since the first time I saw it. But I know the producers made her tone it down a lot, so now it probably sucks. Who was your Joanne, was it Merle?

I like some of Idina's solo material but there are other Broadway people who do stuff that's more to my taste. I actually just went to a Shoshana Bean concert thingy last week where she did a bunch of songs from her (I think upcoming) album and it was really good. Girl can definitely write a nice catchy R&B song. And for the encore she did Ain't No Way which is like her official cover song now.

My ideal Prince Eric? Cheyenne Jackson. YUM. Although he's in Xanadu now and then I think he has another commitment so it could never be. But still! He's so dreamy! Just like Prince Eric, the hot-*test*-('") of all the Disney Princes!

(I'm glad I'm not the only one planning on stalking TLM because of Sherie Renee Scott. Though after she was cast I half expected Norbert to join up, too. As Flotsam and/or Jetsam. Hee.)

Heh. Deborah Cox actually did like a club version of "Easy as Life" and I'm not gonna lie, it's AWESOME.

spidey, I'm glad you had such a great time at Rent - there's nothing better than seeing that show with a great cast and an energetic audience. I do want to check out Adam and Anthony (and Tamyra!) before they leave but honestly I heard the crowds there are completely insane now and I kind of hate that. Plus I'm the worst lotto player ever.

Did y'all hear Kelly Clarkson came to visit the show just before Adam and Anthony came? I almost went that night because I wanted to see that Roger one more time before he left, and now I'm kicking myself for being too lazy to go.

The Little Mermaid is doing its pre-Broadway run here in Denver right now. I'm debating about spending money on tickets for a show that I know absolutely nothing about.

Kiran- 08-06-2007
If its Disney you should go. Only on of their productions has outright sucked (Tarzan), and it'll probably be visually gorgeous. Plus Sherie Rene Scott! And yeah, Norbert Leo Butz will probably show up somewhere..in the background...doing high kicks. :)

I think they actually wanted him to do it for a special engagement for a few weeks (like Idina did for Aida), but he had a conflict. Taye did it though.

And yes, Girl in 14G is incredible. When she starts doing opera than jazz, my job drops. And she did a gorgeous version of Liontamer for a Steven Schwartz album. And Taylor the Latte Boy is really cute.

Sigh. I miss Rosie's show. She used to have every new show on Broadway on and that was awesome. Plus she genuinely loved them. I still remember after the OBC cast of Rent performed "Seasons of Love" and she marched up to Adam Pascal and said she wanted him to come on and do "One Song Glory" or the way after seeing "Good Man Charlie Brown" she used to always have Kristin Chenoweth come on to sing, and just hang.

Have you tried Limewire, Esselite?

Sadly, yes. I've tried a few of the P2P programs. I know the single was released, but trying to find it is not proving successful. I may have to just stick a saved search on Ebay and hope it comes up.

Have you seen the movie? That should give you a good idea of the song/plot. Plus, as said before, Sherie Renee Scott has an amazing voice. It's worth it to hear her sing.

Esselite, I'd keep trying to find it on Limewire. It's taken me forever sometimes but I've found some rare stuff on there. And should you can try footlight.com or http://www.dresscircle.co.uk/ once in while to see if they ever get it. And you could try asking people on the broadwayworld.com message boards. It's scary there, but there's a good chance someone might know where to get it.

Well yeah, I know what's going on plot-wise, and most of the music. But I know they've added some music, which I run hot-and-cold on with Disney.

I'd forgotten Sherie Renee Scott was in it, though. Hm.

Bit of a long shot here, but I'm looking for a song. It's called Whatever You Believe and was in the show The Hunting of the Snark. I saw it on BBC's Children In Need in 1991 and loved it, remembered it enough to sing along when last week I spotted it on YouTube. I'm looking for somewhere, anywhere, that has this single. The song was added to the show after the cast recording was produced so it isn't on the main CD.

I didn't know this in 1991 - but Philip Quast is singing it! Mmmm. No wonder I liked it. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried websearches galore but come up with nothing.

All Things Quast has a page dedicated to the show, including the lyrics, if that helps. You could try asking on their message boards, too.

There's a great blog dedicated to the stage production here, including a post with the demo tracks.

Oh, Dress Circle is one of my favourite shops. They're not cheap, but they've got some lovely stuff. No luck so far, though. I may venture onto those boards, but you're right - they scare me! Yep, I'm a wimp. I'll keep trying Limewire, though.

I'll try the Philip Quast boards, too. I've posted there before, and they didn't eat me.

Kiran- 08-06-2007
I'd still go see it. If its good awesome, but if its not, you can sit back and enjoy the trainwreck. Because I love the movie, its my fave Disney film, but lets face it if its gonna suck, its gonna suck HARD.

spidey_88- 08-06-2007
Merle was our Joanne and she was incredible. Nicolette just played Maureen too over-the-top for me and it took me out of the show. Plus, her "Over the Moon" was really rushed and screechy.

evilmaidel, for RENT discounts, try here for some discount codes. We got tickets (granted, they were last possible row) for $35 through Playbill online, but they don't have any current discounts for that show.

I feel like such a, um, fuddy-duddy. First I'm 'meh' about Spring Awakening, and then when I read that High School Musical 2 had record breaking ratings my reaction is something akin to a mix of rage of despair. I tried listening to the first HSM and thought it was trite and all the voices were whiny nasally Hilarry Duff knock-offs. I don't know what is going on! I love the soundtracks for the Disney animated movies! I enjoy Andrew Llloyd Webber! I don't know why the recent popular stuff in musical theater is so unappealing to me. :sigh:

What songs do people like in HSM? I wanna give it one more listen before I dismiss it again.

Kiran- 08-20-2007
Aw. I loved Spring Awakening. But I'm utterly meh on HSM myself.

I think I just had high expectations for it, and the way Duncan Shiek is acting like it's the first rock musical ever grates me a bit. But I'm glad not everyone else loves HSM too. :clings: The people I see who do hate HSM are people who hate ALL pop musicals, so I couldn't insert myself into a clique! *g*
