Shes supposed to be excellent in that!
The reviews I've read all say her love interests should swap roles though
evilmaidel- 07-27-2007
She was amaaaaazing! It's funny that reviews said that about her love interests. Did they mean the actors playing them or the actual characters themselves? Because I thought she had great chemistry with both of the actors, but I totally get the switcheroo idea.
I went into the show not really knowing anything about what was supposed to happen, so when it came time to the awesome <<'take down your hair' scene I was rooting for her and Starbuck to make out but it still shocked the hell out of me when they did. (And it was just as hot as I thought it would be.) I guess I'm used to too many shows where there's one obvious love interest, and that's it, and I knew she'd end up with the sheriff because otherwise there was no point to him being in the show. So I didn't think anything serious would happen with Starbuck. But then it did, wheee! The scene with the Sheriff declaring his love for her was played more for comedy than anything else. Although I got a major Mr. Darcy vibe from him just in terms of being that quiet dude that you never know what he's thinking until one day it turns out he loved you all along. And I'm a total sucker for that guy so I was happy.>>
It's too bad the show was only a limited run (it's closing on Sunday) because I'd have loved to go back and see it again from the 'splash zone'. Plus, dude playing Starbuck had an absolutely gorgeous voice.

They meant that the actors should switch characters. That the dude playing the straight laced ones radiated more "Danger, sexuality" and the guy playing the drifter looked like he'd more at home as the cop.
evilmaidel- 07-27-2007
Wow, that's so interesting. I thought the total opposite - that the drifter had this crazy magnetic sexual energy thing going on (while the sheriff had the quiet hotness) - but I didn't initially realize he was supposed to be like that until the 'take your hair down' part. Then it all clicked. I'm somewhat slow on the uptake... heh.
You've got me curious enough now to go hunting down reviews!
Kiran- 07-27-2007
Yeah, the NY times one in particular felt that.

Wee! Rent was awesome! I posted a couple of pictures from outside the theater in
Show and Tell

I have to say, its like, 10 years later, and yet if I was there, Adam Pascal's wife would probably have ended up pissed off a la Faith Hill.

Adam has some really obnoxious fans. I went to a concert of his in February and I wanted to die in embarassment for some of these girls. One person was yelled out, "We want Roger!" and another was said, "I wanna have your babies!" (Adam: I have two, not having anymore!) Which was weird? Cause I went to another one about 2 years before with Daphne Rubin-Vega and the audience was fun crazy, not scary crazy. Maybe they were scared of Daphne or something, I dunno.
ANYWAY. How was the Mimi spidey? (I ask about her only because I'm sure Adam and Anthony were great.)
Kiran- 08-04-2007
Hee. Those crazy fans scare me. I suspect its because when Rent first began, Adam Pascal got a BIG reaction. Like the NY times crowned him the new Broadway sex symbol or whatever. So I suspect its because that none of those girls have a big ol' teenage crush on Daphne. But yeah. I wouldnt be inappropriate, REALLY.
Was Tamyra from Idol, the Mimi? I heard that.
spidey_88- 08-04-2007
Yup, Tamyra was Mimi and I was pleased with her performance. She did quite well, although they did seem to re-work a few notes here and there to suit her lower range.
I do have to say that the crazies did make for a fun audience during the performance because there definitely was palpable excitement that the cast was feeding on.
I didn't, however, think that the Maureen that was wonderful. (Nicolette something?) Considering that they had a drop-dead gorgeous Joanne, Maureen was kind of butch in comparison.

Hee. Trust me, I have a big crush on Adam too. (And one on Daphne too. And she herself said in an interview she had the biggest crush on Adam.) What Rent girl doesn't have a crush on Adam? I just feel the crazy ones are tainting the less . . . intense fangirls. :)

oops, I meant to say, it was a concert with both her and Adam. There was screaming for him, but not the kind of crazy stuff said to him at the later concert.
Thanks spidey!
Did you guys hear they are re-working Rent in London? I kinda hope there's a cast recording.
Kiran- 08-04-2007
Adam is THE hottie of the Broadway world. I just wish he would do more. I mean hes on Rent now, and he did Cabaret, and before that Aida for years, and he does those Lincoln centre one night things, but I wanna see him in something new and awesome. I stress the awesome. He did the workshop of Tarzan and I'm so glad he didnt end up in the Musical, cause you know...it blows.
ulkis- 08-04-2007
Adam said somewhere that all they were offering him was crappy jukebox musicals, and that's why he moved to L.A. Did you see his la-*test*-('") interview on BRoadway.com? Apparently he wanted to do Phantom, which would be weird, but it would be interesting to see him try that. He's working on a third album now, but I have to admit I don't love Adam's music. It's good, but not great, in my humble opinion. (I love Idina and Daphne's stuff though. I urge looking up some of Daphne's concert videos on youtube. And if you haven't heard "I'm Your Angel", to look it up on i-tunes, because I think a lot of people have missed that one and it is ridiculously awesome.) Anyway, yeah, I'd love to see Adam get a great new musical.
Esseilte- 08-05-2007
Bit of a long shot here, but I'm looking for a song. It's called
Whatever You Believe and was in the show
The Hunting of the Snark. I saw it on BBC's Children In Need in 1991 and loved it, remembered it enough to sing along when last week I
spotted it on YouTube. I'm looking for somewhere, anywhere, that has this single. The song was added to the show after the cast recording was produced so it isn't on the main CD.
I didn't know this in 1991 - but Philip Quast is singing it! Mmmm. No wonder I liked it. Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried websearches galore but come up with nothing.
Kiran- 08-05-2007
I love Idina but I actually like Adam's solo stuff more than hers. I dont know. He never did a techno version of like, Fortune Favors the Brave and that counts for a lot with me. I love Daphne's solo stuff. I wish he could get something good, thats non jukeboxy. Sigh. Maybe he could go back to Disney and be like, Prince Eric in the new Little Mermaid musical if it doenst suck. I actually wish John Doyle would put him in whatever Sondheim reinvention hes working for next season. Because at this point Adam is probably the biggest theatre star who actually is doing like, the least theatre. I'm gonna go youtube that Chess Lincoln Centre thing he did now.
You know whose CD I actually like? Kristen Chenoweths. The non religious one. Girl in Apartment 13 is really funny, and vocally amazing.
Have you tried Limewire, Esselite?
ETA: To say I just read that interview, and awww. I love Adam Pascal. And I have to say I find it adorable the original Rent cast is so close still.
