I'd say go ahead and start it, keeping in mind though, that the topic is about movies from that decade only and trends/themes pertaining to those movies (So the Star Wars Trilogy would be off-topic and better suited to it's thread, for example). If discussion veers into other stuff, then it'll get shutdown/merged with something else more appropriate.
And actually, a better idea might be to make it about movie trends/themes across several decades, which might have more lasting conversation potential than by the decade. |
That is a better idea! What to call it? Movie trends across decades? That seems so. . .vanilla. I'll try to think of something snappier.

I was wondering about starting a weight issues thread. We have one for Fitness and Exercise and another for Body, Health and Illness. But I'm thinking of one for support for those of us the deal with weight issues. Including diet tips and reviews of diet products and programs and motivational stuff. I was thinking of more of overweight snarkers who want to lose (or not lose and just want to deal) but I don't want to exclude other snarkers that deal with eating disorders either. Should that go into one of the current threads or is it ok to start a new one?

It really could go in either of the ones you mentioned. Just pick the one that might best fit what you want to talk about and if the conversation dominates, we'll split the thread.

Since some of us are playing TvBigShot should we have a seperate thread for it in Lit & Multimedia to keep from clogging up the TWoP thread?

With the broken hearts in The Dark is Rising thread does anyone feel up to a discussion thread on hollywood vrs source material, good and bad adaptations.
psammead- 09-27-2007
I think that would be a great idea but could I make a request that this sort of thread doesn't always have Hollywood in the title? After all, other countries have crappy films (and Homosexuality and History too!)

Sounds like a good topic. I'd put it in the movie section, so that it covers everything from books (which will be most likely) to biopics.

Can we start up a decorating thread? I keep hijacking other ones when talking about decorating my new home.

Thirded! We can share great design blogs and flickr groups and yay!

Sure. In the community forum.

This is because the London Film Festival is on - would people be interested in a What have you seen recently? film thread because I think quite a few films don't get their own thread and so get a bit lost unless someone mentions them in What have you rented recently?.

I dunno if this is already going on in some thread here and I missed it, but is there anywhere we could talk about the writers' strike? I can't think of any existing thread that would cover it. (I suppose some of the threads for individual TV shows would work for the lack of new episodes for those shows, but not about the strike in general.)
Would it be worth a new thread in General Fame Talk or Television? I'm not sure it is, but I don't know where in particular would be a good place for it.
(Also, What have you seen recently? sounds like a great idea for smaller movies, although maybe it should be combined with What have you rented recently?, because I could see those two getting redundant quickly.)

Isn't there a The Business of Show thread, or something similar?
punkysdilemma- 11-07-2007
I'd also like to ask for a general strike thread over in Television (seems appropriate to me...it's a TV strike, enit?)
