Oh dang, I thought I looked carefully, but I guess I missed it. Thanks!

Can/should we have a "Weird Celebrity News" thread? For things like Keith Richards snorting his father's ashes? Which I'm still completely "WTF" about, by the way.

Wait, what?!
Hold me, Tico. That just broke the small part of my brain that F_W had left intact.

Maybe there should be a thread for Flickr. It is kind of fascinating some of the various sets/collections out there that people post. There are some incredibly talented people and there are some incredibly crazy but cool subjects.

I'd be cool with that. Put it in the Lit & Multimedia section.
For the Weird Celebrity News (I know that was a while ago), I just worry it would turn into a huge thread attracting things which should go in other sections/individual threads, but I think it would reasonable to try it for a while and see how it goes. Go ahead and start it in General Fame.

Should talk about
Rifftrax stay in the MST3K thread, or would it be okay to start a separate thread (in Movies, maybe)? I mean, it is MST, but it isn't.

Who's up for "Based on a true life story." flicks discussion?
Everything from your Lifetime Channel melodramas to the HBO grade dramatic adaptations.
The only problem I see is where to draw the boundry between this and history films.
I also expect most films discussed will be depressing downers.
vwlphb- 05-04-2007
Well if you do, I'd draw the line at "Made for TV", and put it in the TV section. That's really what you mean by it, right? Made for HBO counts as made for TV, though obviously of a higher quality.
Also, it's more of a "based on a (modern) true story" rather than based on history. I don't think talking about The Tudors or Something The Lord Made would fit in there at all. Maybe just make a Lifetimes Movie thread and figure it's okay to get a bit off topic to encompass other channel's made for TV movies of the same spirit?

Ponders the best way to go about the start of such a discussion.
I was also thinking of those underdog sports team champions, inspired by teacher, and crazy criminal cases flicks but yes most true story films are TV fodder.
vwlphb- 05-05-2007
Well if you want to put it in the Movies section, maybe you could call it "Inspired by true events", because isn't that what they usually say on these movies? And they're supposed to be all inspirational. Though personally I'd divide the cheesy lifetime movies and underdog movies. You could make a thread in Movies just for the inspirational underdog films, because I think there's enough to talk about there without mixing in crazy criminal cases or lifetime husband-killer type stories.

Over at a couple of journals, we've been having fun with movie brackets...basically taking large master lists of films, pitting them against each other, then after the purge pitting them against films of different lists. I think a lot of people here could have fun with it. Of course, the structure would have to be ironed out--to we have one big bracket thread? Too much of them could clutter up the forum, so maybe they should go in a subforum?
vwlphb- 05-10-2007
I could see it being difficult to do unless we have one person organizing it and making polls. That could be possible - we could give them permission to do it, maybe in the community section since it's more of a community thing.
Can you think of a better or more organized way to do it?
Skyblade- 05-10-2007
I was wondering if it should all be in a one-encompassing thread, and basically we have one bracket at a time (Maybe after a vote of what kind of category)
Polls might be too messy, but i have seen brackets done where polls aren't needed, and there's something of a knockout format, where people get the chance to take one point from a movie and add a point to another movie.

That makes sense. Well, if you'd like to try it and see if it works, go ahead. I'd still put it in the community section.
