I just came here to request the same thing! I would love to discuss this, especially since it's such a hot topic right now. The strike concerns the Writer's Guild of America, so it encompasses both TV and movies, although TV seems to be the one that will be harder hit. Perhaps a thread in Beyond Snarkfest would work?

Go ahead and make a thread for the writers' strike in the General Fame Talk section. I think it will fit best there - as you said, it includes movies and TV writers, and Beyond Snarkfest is more for threads that aren't related to normal Snarkfest topics.

I would like to start a thread to discuss The Spice Girls, but I'm not whether Music or Celebrities would be appropriate. Because they are a singing group, but probably most of what I'd like to discuss centers around their outfits and. . . celebrity gossip. Yes! I'll admit it!

I'm sure I have a couple of things to say about their music, too--but not as much. I'll start it up wherever the mods say, though.

We've got a Spice Girls music thread, so if you want to start a celebrity one for discussion of them as people, I would think that's ok.

Do we have a thread on Politics? Can we have one? Will anyone else post in one? I want to talk about the US Presidential elections with US people.

I think we all agreed not to talk about politics. (Heck, we can't even agree about history around here.)

My feeling on the matter is that there are ample places around the internets to talk politics. The few times it's happened around here, it's become too intense for my taste.

ETA: I know that I've been guilty of stepping into politics around here in the past, but I've since decided it's best to just avoid it.

Ok, fair enough. I did wonder if it would be considered too inflamatory. I just wanted to discuss it in a familiar place, rather than on a new forum with strangers, but I guess it's quite a divisive topic.

I thought we had added it to the FAQ, but I guess not, so we'll have to do so in the future. But, yeah, politics is not under the realm of entertainment, so we don't discuss them here.

I'd quite like a completely discrete Politics thread which might stop it leaking out everywhere but I can see why people might think it could generate ill-feeling. It's easy to assume that all Snarkers, being both intelligent and nice would agree with ME but this might not actually be the case...(about the agreeing rather than the intelligence and niceness). I'd like to be able to ask technical questions about the election though as I'm sure I'm not the only Yank to be confused about caucuses and primaries. Could we do that in the Cultural Differences thread?

Maybe we should start an LJ comm?
