The new album has leaked. *happy dances across thread*
cutebutpsycho- 08-27-2008
OMG SRSLY? I know what I'm doing today.

And suddenly, I'm ten years old again, arguing with my best friend over who was cuter, Donnie, or Jordan. I'll be over here, attaching new tennis balls to my walker if anyone needs me.

I'm not sure I have ever been so happy about internet piracy. Um, not that I would know anything about that.
cutebutpsycho, I'm right behind you!

I just got a listen to all the tracks (well, the ones I hadn't heard yet), thanks to a youtube search. I can't remember all of the stuff because the entire album seems to be a haze of clubbing, alcohol, temptation and sex (in public, at home, on video, on the Jumboscreen at a Celtics game...OK. I might be lying about that one.). But the tracks that made me think a little were these:
2 in the Morning -- Is it wrong that this song cracks me up? It sounds like some of the early fights I've had with my husband (until I learned he can't read my mind).
Stare at You -- I keep waiting to see a writing credit from Edward Cullen after hearing lyrics like "Baby keep the light on/Gonna stare at you all night long." I nearly howled with laughter.
Officially Over -- I keep thinking there's some personal shit tied up with this song for some reason. It just seems weird, coming on the recent announcement of Donnie's divorce from his wife.
My ass. It has theories about this reunion. Let me show you.

A close friend of mine has this really sweet internship with Universal Music Group and just informed me that next week she's going to meet the New Kids! Clearly she needs to get pictures and autographs.

Awesome! Can you ask her to tell Jon I love him (I do! Shy, anxious people of the world Unite!), but the porn 'stache has got to go?
cutebutpsycho- 08-29-2008
SWEET! Tell her to tell Donnie that he's still an adorable flirt, but Kool Moe Dee called -- he wants his sunglasses back.
Oh, and for some people -- Kiss FM in Boston has the entire CD up on its website on demand. I'm still digging the dance beat. Sept. 2nd can't come soon enough.

Not about "Officially Over"... but Donnie had this to say about "2 In The Morning" in a recent interview:
On "2 in the Morning," a ballad about a disintegrating marriage: "It is the most personal song that I have ever written. I've never gone through a divorce before. That song really unleashed me. Working on that song I was going through a really hard time and the words are so true. That was maybe the second song I wrote for the project, but I really dialed into something right there. I'd never used writing as therapy. I wrote some stuff on [Mark Wahlberg's] albums and on the last New Kids album that expressed anger and this and that, but not from a place of such vulnerability. Once I tasted that and saw how therapeutic it could be, that's when I really started to go."

I THOUGHT SO! CookieMonster you just help confirm some of the thoughts in my head. Well, maybe not completely confirm, but give more credence to my thought that some of The Block is about Donnie's divorce and becoming a single man than just a light, happy dance album.
Songs like "Dirty Dancing," "Looking Like Danger," "2 in the Morning," and "Officially Over," to me have the theme of a major relationship breaking up and the external temptations that sometimes hit that relationship. And the whole thing about the guys moving into Donnie's house to make the album makes me speculate that they also came together not just for the album, but also to help him through the whole mess and a way to keep him busy through the whole thing.
Wow. Who would've thunk I could find deep meanings in an NKOTB album?
Again. Ass. Theories. Let me show you.

Today Show postponed due to Gustav coverage. :( But Joe, Jon, and Danny went to visit the girls that had been camping out in line so yay for them. Now where is Mr. Facetime himself??
In other news... the album is definitely growing on me.

OK. I gotta do a little vent right now. I tried to order The Block on iTunes this morning, but they didn't have the deluxe version within sight. So I downloaded it from Amazon. It does not come with the single "Close to you."
So today I check iTunes. There's the deluxe version. With Close to You. Which I can't buy as a single. *shakes fist*

Update on my friend who totally met the Kids!
She says that she was so nervous, but that they were all really nice. Basically, they were having an album signing/meet and greet type thing for fans at a Best Buy in Manhattan. There were people lined up for hours, and people were screaming and going nuts.
The Kids were nice and laid back. My friend had wanted to act cool and chat with them, but ended up being so starstruck that she randomly told Jordan, "I still have your Barbie doll!" He responded with, "Nice!"
At one point, her job was to take pictures of the Kids with their fans. For an hour and a half. Many times, she had difficulties getting people to look at the camera, and she was feeling stressed out. But Joey and Jon kept telling her not to worry and that she was doing a great job, and generally giving her encouraging smiles (awww!).
Oh, and Donnie apparently made it a point to hug every single fan. Hee!
I am so jealous of her life right now.

I've finally had some time to listen to The Block a few times, and it is growing on me. A LOT.
