Another lurker delurking to say a big "thank you" to Libelle.
For a while I thought Snarkfest was history, but then I got an extra christmas present in the form of an email guiding me here.

And another big thank you to everybody else for all your hard work saving the forum. Even if I just usually lurk, I would have missed Snarkfest a great deal.

Hooooooooly craaaaaaaaaap, you guys, I am SO RELIEVED to have found SF again. I had no idea about any of this -- I just noticed that the board was down and assumed technical difficulties, and then it went on and on and ON, and I thought maybe I'd somehow been banned, and I got all paranoid trying to remember if I'd posted something that could have been misconstrued, and I e-mailed that admin e-mail and never got a response, and I tried to login and re-register and it kept giving me weird SQL errors and telling me I was already registered and then telling me I wasn't registered, and I was just baffled. I don't have an LJ, or read LJ, and I thought there must be SOME explanation SOMEWHERE about what had happened, but I couldn't put my finger on it. So after a while I sort of accepted that it was gone, and I was idly Googling again today mostly just to see if I could find some closure, like maybe enough time had passed that someone, somewhere had heard something and posted about it. I was at GFY this morning and was actually contemplating e-mailing them to see if they knew what had happened to it, and I never do that kind of thing. I've just been stymied.

I have been in SERIOUS withdrawal. I mean, the Britney crotch thing happened, and I was actually reduced to GOOGLING "britney spears crotch" to see what all the fuss was about. DO YOU KNOW HOW HUMILIATING THAT WAS FOR ME? Hee.

I have just read the whole saga and I must add my thanks to the general chorus -- mods, I really admire your handling of this whole situation, as well as your willingness to be up front about it, and certainly your gallantly quick resurrection of the site, even though I didn't happen upon it until a MONTH LATER. CLEARLY my Google-fu is not up to scratch, to say the least. Anyway -- a huge thank-you from this occasional poster and avid reader.

How did you end up finding the board after all? I'm curious because people are still trickling in, and we're trying to figure out how to get hold of, you know, roughly 1000 people who haven't made it back yet.

Simply googling Snarkfest gets us at number 4 (number 3 at co.uk) but of course plenty of people wouldn't realise Snarkphoenix is Snarkfest Redux. Especially as there is a Snarkfest.com which confused a lot of folks when we first started after FT died.

I wonder what percentage of the missng 1000 had lapsed anyway. There were a lot of people who joined all the post-FT forums and then just stuck with one of them.

Yeah, I did think about that later--just because you had an account doesn't mean you were a member in good standing, or that you even visited the board more than once. We seem to have a good flow of traffic here--busier than the old board, I daresay--and while there are people missing here and there, it doesn't feel like a skeleton crew or anything. We're probably not missing as many people as I think we are.

Maybe we should try a Google bomb--my understanding of how that would work is that we all simply go to our blogs and Livejournals and post something like "The new Snarkfest!," all of us with the exact same wording and link, and if enough of us did it, that would raise our standing if someone searched "Snarkfest."

I just Googled, which I'd done a while back and all I'd found was the old Snarkfest and that snarkfest.com, whatever that is. I think last time I may have tried stuff like "snarkfest down" or similar, because I wasn't trying to find Snarkfest -- I knew where Snarkfest was (I thought) -- I was trying to find why it was broken.

So this time, I went more general, because I was trying to find ANY message board, anywhere, where people might be talking about Snarkfest, in hopes one of them would bring up the whole "not existing anymore" thing. Finding another version of the board was the last thing I was expecting -- I thought we were dealing with a prolonged malfunction, like when the Fametracker forums were down for three weeks or whatever that time. I don't know WHY it didn't occur to me that if the board were semi-permanently broken someone would have started a new one, but it didn't.

I totally thought this too. :P
