I'm still using my "Cousins" mousepad, PrincessCleo, even as I type. It would rock if you could put something together.

I finally bought myself an OMGWTFPOLARBEAR mug a few months ago. I'd love to see what you come up with whenever you have the time, Cleo.

So, honest question, not snide: Is there a method in place for ensuring mods are drama-free, so this doesn't happen again?
Or do you have to be a super-special type of mod to get access to the History Eraser Button?
PrincessCleo- 12-01-2006
Well, I know I don't have access to the big red button.

Would it be sufficient (or at least ease your understandable concern) if I at-*test*-('")ed to the fact that I have dealt closely with almost all of the moderators here (Cleo and I were behind the scenes at different times), and they are absolutely the most drama-free group of people I've ever run across online?
NovemberRain- 12-01-2006
This may be a stupid question because I'm not that savvy about the internets but does you know who have access to the new SF?
tothemax- 12-01-2006
I'm guessing no, NovemberRain, since all registrations had to be approved by the mods.

Sure, that does help. I'm also thinking in terms of "all the mods know each other" as well as "no one has access to the beautiful, shiny button," and possibly "no one is allowed to give anyone else mod privileges without some strict approval process," that kind of thing.
I like knowing the keys are locked up tight. I don't want access to the keys but I want whoever knows where the keys are isn't going to let his crazy brother Eddie run naked with 'em some day.

Don't worry, only lezopez and I have access to the "KILL THE BOARD DEAD!!1!" buttons. We're also the only ones who can make another person a moderator.
This isn't to say that we don't trust the other moderators, because we really truly do. Before we'd make another person a moderator, we would all discuss it as we did last time. It can be difficult to find people you trust over the internet, because most of us haven't actually met in real life, but I have absolute faith in our moderating team. I really don't think that this will happen again. (I, for one, promise that if I ever leave the forum, I will do it quietly and without harm to the board. This forum belongs to all of the posters much more than it does to any of the moderators or admins.)
If you're referring to seeing a user named spbink as admin on and off, that is another username of mine that I had to use to register the board since vwlphb was already registered for the support forums. Or something like that. All I know is that it wouldn't let me use vwlphb for the root owner account, so I used the alternate name. Rest assured, it is only me.
(In order to set up some things, I had to have the account as an admin, but for the most part it will be left as a normal member account so that there is less chance of hacking.)
NovemberRain, I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but we can see the email address and IPs of all registered users. That way if we get spammers or trolls, we can ban the IP instead of just the specific username. If you recall on the other forum, we'd occasionally get complete spam messages posted to the board, so we use the tools to get rid of those...well, tools.
NovemberRain- 12-01-2006
Yes, that was what I was asking. Thanks.
mrinsouciance- 12-01-2006
Just make sure you have a very thorough and rigorous vetting process for moderators, because, HELLO! "You're doin' a heckuva job, Brownie!"
vwlphb- 12-01-2006
Are you comparing us to George W. Bush? Seriously?
Unlucky Bear- 12-01-2006
Oh my god, you guys...oh my god. I had no idea it was that bad. I am so sorry you had to go through all of that. Thank god for cool moderators, though, because I was very unhappy when Snarkfest went kaput the other day.

I just posted this to cleolinda's journal, but thanks for getting this up and running again so fast. So sorry you had to go through that.

Heeding the call to delurk and adding my voice to the chorus of gratitude. I think someone back at the Old Old Place was mean in my general direction once or something and I took my ball and stood quietly in the corner; hence my lack of posting here, for no good reason. I'm looking forward to remedying this.
So glad it's back, so glad.
