She looks so.... normal. She's not brutally hot like we're lead to believe all celebrities are without their clothes on. She looks like a normal 23 year old girl. I guess what I'm saying is, no photoshopping.

Why is this creepy and saddening, but the 17th century nude in the train station is okay? There's some kind of disconnect here.

I think its because shes not even acting anymore. They just seem to be making her into the new Marilyn Monroe. Which is sad, because of how that ended, which doesnt seemed to be mentioned. I think though its partly because of her problems that its seems sad. If she had done this and hadnt just gotten out of rehab (and was rumored to be relapsing) I'd probably just say, whatever. Shes got a nice, real bod, which is refreshing even if she looks tired in the face though.

And I think its because People has quotes from the article and they are kinda sad. Like when she draws parallels to Heath Ledger and Marilyn Monroe but gets pissy when they mention her three rehab stays.

particle_person- 02-18-2008
Truthfully, this looks like more of a commentary on that perception to me. Also, she's not Marilyn and isn't bound to Marilyn's fate. Even Amy Winehouse looks like she's doing better now.

Kiran- 02-18-2008
Yeah probably. I do have to say I'm glad that she appears to be healthy. And I agree with you that its better than people like Jessica Alba declaring that they wont get nude and acting like its moral or something.

And I agree with you about the Marilyn thing. Thats actually what bothered me about the article. They seemed desperate to paint her in the same light and it was...sad. Cause shes not her. We dont know whats going on.

particle_person- 02-18-2008
Maybe this is her way of saying, "Look, I'm nice and pink and healthy! LOVE ME OR DESPAAAIIIR!"
--
Yeah, statements like, "Six weeks after she had posed, Monroe was found dead of an apparent barbiturate overdose," show what NYMag is trying to do.

Kiran- 02-18-2008
If she actually said that I think I'd love her forever.

Either way I'm glad that shes gained back weight, and in that shoot layed of the tanner. Now if she could just stay away from the Blonde dye number 5.

Isn't "love me and despair"?

I have to admit, that's one of my biggest pet peeves with celebrities, who say that sort of thing and act as if that's a strong, moral line they will not cross... in an interview that accompanies a photoshoot of them in their underwear.

It is, but I was trying to be nice.

She has nice breasts. Her hips are a little small for my personal taste, but a nice body overall.

Anyway, I am also annoyed with starlets who act as if nudity is a bad thing. If Jessica Alba says one more thing about how it would be a disservice to women in general if she were to show her nipples, or makes some other pearl-clutching statement, I will scream. This only comes from a woman who is famous for her body in the first place, but she'll never make the connection.

That just makes me sad. I dont think that was the aim.

I didn't think it was. Gallows humor.

No disconnect for me. It's not because "naked equals creepy." If she'd done almost any other set of poses I'd be fine. This specific shoot is creepy to me because Lohan, who has been in and out of rehab for her drug habit and in celebrity death pools for the last two years, is recreating the last photo shoot of a woman who killed herself with barbituates six weeks after said photo shoot happened. Hell, the article takes great pains to point out the parallels between Lohan now and Monroe right before her death, when the original photos were taken.

I also find the original Monroe shoot creepy because she was depressed and visibly drunk when she did it. If the painting was of a depressed, possibly suicidal naked woman historically known to be sexually exploited and on mind altering substances while being painted, I'd find it creepy, too.

Heeeeeyyy, Marilyn didn't quite kill herself so much as she was being drugged up by irresponsible people. If anyone's life is paralleling hers, it's Britney, not Lindsey.

Oh? Not the point of the thread you say? Carry on then.

Touche. But I still find it creepy, and not because boobies scare me. :)

This makes me so happy. The men of Planet Earth thank you, Lindsay.

Now, time to get NY Magazine on the phone with Scarlett Johansson's agent.
