Oh Noes! Man burns books as act of pro-*test*-('").
QUOTE
"This is the funeral pyre for thought in America today," Wayne told spectators outside his bookstore as he lit the first batch of books.

The fire blazed for about 50 minutes before the Kansas City Fire Department put it out because Wayne didn't have a permit for burning

You need a permit to burn books in the Land of the Free?

If it is a bonfire that is not on private property, you do need a permit to make sure that it doesn't get out of control and cause other things to catch fire. It is a reasonable law.

Skull found in the Firth of Forth. Check out what the detective in charge of the case has to say about it.

Now, I'm not a police officer. Nor did I go to detective school. But I reckon that when someone gets abducted by two men and then his skull turns up in a river a year later, it's a pretty safe bet that it's a murder inquiry.

Little Car Mechanic Sparks Child Abduction Scare.

I love the last line of the story:
QUOTE
Police said they didn't know if he found the source of the rattling.

That line is my favorite part of the article, too.

Different topic: Udder Delights: Cow Produces Low-Fat Milk.

Cutty Sark update - CCTV footage of possible culprit found

Heee. I was watching a news show last weekend, and someone from some preservation foundation said that the fire might actually be a good thing because it will force taking the Cutty Sark out of dry dock and making her sea worthy again.

Totally OT, but every time I see "cutty sark" I think of House and Alias. :-)

A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail.

Cocaine, marijuana particles found in Rome air

QUOTE
The concentration of drugs was heaviest in the air around Rome's Sapienza university, though the National Research Council's Dr. Angelo Cecinato warned against drawing conclusions about students' recreational habits.

Just great. Next, they'll be hanging out doing their drugs on my lawn!

Why I'll be in Orlando in 2009.

So they're building a theme park with that many attractions in two years. That would be a magic trick worthy of Albus Dumbledore!

OMG evilbearhunter's friends made it into the front page of the NYTimes with their YouTube rap about Vermont!

QUOTE
The rappers, who are all in the midst of SAT preparation, said they had taken something of an intellectual turn in their video, using words like “fustigating” and avoiding profanity.

“I don’t think a big SAT vocabulary is what a lot of rappers are looking for,” Colin said, “but if it enhances your writing, that’s good.”

Man wakes up from coma to find communism has ended. The story reminds me of the German film Goodbye Lenin. Though I suspect this man has less hilarity ensuing.
