If my father were alive, he would be weeping. He had such a passion for tall ships.

Gay flamingos adopt chick
QUOTE
Carlos and Fernando had tried to start their own family by stealing eggs from other flamingos at the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) in Slimbridge.

But their sitting and hatching skills impressed staff so much, that when a nest was abandoned last week, they were chosen to "adopt" the chick.

Somewhere in the afterlife, Jerry Falwell frowns upon this mockery of traditional avian family values.

I'm just thrilled to discover 'sitting' is a skill (and one that, if I do say so myself, I excel at)

Viagra Reduces Hamster 'Jet Lag'

QUOTE
Hamsters that received small doses of sildenafil, sold under the name Viagra, adjusted more quickly to laboratory simulations of a six-hour time-zone change than animals in the control group.

The researchers found that a single dose of sildenafil helped the animals adapt up to 50% faster than usual. They believe that because a one-off dose had this large an effect in hamsters, the drug might offer a simple way to combat jet lag in people.
...
"It's true that some people will be worried about the - let's call them side effects," Golombek says. "But if we eliminate the erectile effects [by using low doses], I don't see why people wouldn't consider taking it."

Where is the last place the police would look for stolen goods?
QUOTE
It's quite hard these days, in the overcrowded field of amusingly incompetent criminality, to find someone breaking new ground. But an Oklahoma man has done that, by robbing a cinema and then leaving the stolen goods in full public view on the porch of his home.

Chucking cats at McDonald's cashiers in Russia - pure art, or just really weird?

tothemax- 05-25-2007
I'll go with weird.

particle_person- 05-25-2007
Weird and kind of cruel to the cats. And perhaps the McDonalds workers.

Bendy TV

Oh man. So cool. I want it RIGHTNOW.

particle_person- 05-26-2007
You and me both. Bendy TV rocks.

On the other hand, there are some bad sides to it. When the price gets low enough to make it disposable, it's likely to end up as advertising on packaging. Picture going to the grocery store with aisle on aisle of products with non-stop commercials running in endless loops on the labels. Or airline tray tables with moving ads that you can't shut off.

tothemax- 05-26-2007
The world will be just like Minority Report. Hopefully, I'll be senile by then.

particle_person- 05-26-2007
Actually, a long time before things get to that stage we're likely to see animated billboards on highways. I'm pretty sure there's going to be legislation soon (if there hasn't been already) on how much animation is allowed near highways.
