Wait a minute. If Peter can heal himself then why would he have a scar?

Malenky Devil- 03-07-2007
My guess is that, since future Hiro came from a future where Claire had not been saved, that means that Peter never came in contact with her and as such never gained her power to heal, hence the scar. I don't know if that makes sense considering all the other times Peter's healed himself (though maybe in that timeline instead of healing after he fell on the taxi he flew before he hit it).

Something occurred to me today. When Sylar is cutting Peter, they show the blood dripping on the floor and the hair falling. The blood drips at a normal speed. The hair falls in slow motion. Either this is tricksy camera stuff or Peter has finally summoned some of his power and is slowing down time. I feel it's the latter. Probably took him a minute to gather his wits to do it what with his head being cut open and all.

It also could have been Mohinder's blood that has been dripping since he's nailed to the ceiling. Yhe hair is probably tricky camera stuff since it's the closing shot for SIX weeks.

I wonder why Peter hasn't busted out his ability to hear thoughts yet. Or actually, why isn't he hearing everyone's thoughts around him all the time, like Matt did before he learned to control it?

Does he know about that ability? Did Matt use it in his presence? I don't think Peter will always have to think of the person to use the specific power forever, only until he's able to control it himself. But if he doesn't know that he has a particular power he wouldn't use it unless he needed it (like the telekinesis two weeks ago). Only then can he begin to use it when he wants to.

Sylar actively seeks out other abilities so he has more time to play with it, -*test*-('") their limits, and such. After the guy who touched things and they melted Sylar doesn't melt everything he touches because he can control it unlike the guy who had it. Same thing with Dale and the hearing.

That doesn't quite track. For one, we don't know that Hiro comes from a future without Claire - we've since learned that Hiro can't change the past, so maybe he was ordained to come back and tell Peter to get things moving in the right direction. Or maybe future Hiro can change the past, but that doesn't necessarily figure into this problem. We don't know Claire's status in the future.

But assuming she did die and Peter never met her, he certainly didn't get the scar from Sylar because he would have likely died rather than regenerated.

I think it's safer to think that Peter can only focus on one power at a time, at present, and after he zips himself up enough to not bleed to death he has to switch gears quickly to a more offensive power and thus doesn't heal completely. Or that the scar has nothing to do with this encounter at all.

He definitely knows about it. He and Matt were hearing each other's thoughts and getting feedback. And I don't think he has to know about the ability to use it. He was able to heal without knowing that Claire could heal.

The question about Peter's scar is a good one. If Peter didn't have Claire's ability to heal in the future, he would be dead, not walking around with a scar.

Yes, but that could be an example of involuntary usage that seems to accompany his initial exposure to certain powers.

And now I want to see her say, "It's not a trick, it's an illusion, Bennet!" So very, very much.

A trick is something a whore does for money....or candy.

Maybe because Sylar took Peter by surprise, he doesn't have the chance to properly heal because he's too preoccupied with trying to kick Sylar's ass.

I've got nothing.

Kalliopeia- 03-07-2007
We don't really know how Peter's powers work. Maybe if he leaves a wound for too long, he can't heal it properly, and I'd think that he's going to be more concerned with getting Sylar away from him than healing the cut.

FiggyPudding- 03-07-2007
For right now I'm going with the "didn't have time to properly heal" theory.

I think Hiro is unable to change the past, but maybe Future Hiro came back just before some tragic/cataclysmic event, so there was/is still time to change the course of events. I don't get the feeling that Claire will/does die in that timeline. Time travel plots always hurt my head.

If anyone else is like me and confused with the graphic novel and what-they-show-on-tv stuff, I suggest taking a look at the Heores Wiki because it has storylines combining the TV show and the graphic novel. Why they can't put all this in the show, I have no idea, because until reading this thread I had no idea there even was a graphic novel that had the "missing" storylines in. I wonder if they'll put the novel onto the DVDs somehow?

From Mr Bennet's wiki:
QUOTE
Graphic Novel:Hell's Angel

In 1992, Mr. Bennet and Claude work as partners for The Company. They go to Meredith's apartment in Kermit for a routine "bag and tag" on the woman. Things go wrong when a fire erupts. Mr. Bennet looks for Claude, and finds an infant trapped in her crib, whom he saves from the fire.

A bit more info on that in the show would have been nice for us who don't read the novels :/
