I posted this in the pregnancy thread, but Jamie Lynn Spears just gave birth to a girl, Maddie Briann. I can hear the banjos plucking in the distance.

Awww, I think it's a nice name.
Jesus H. Garcia- 06-19-2008
It could have been worse, but why "Maddie" instead of "Madison", "Madeline", etc.? I see she worked in a family name, too (Bryan/Britney).
Diego Zanzibar- 06-19-2008
I like that name- it's sweet.
Miss Moneypenny- 06-19-2008
I actually like Maddie a lot more than Madison, but it would have been nice if she'd given her a full name.
nikita- 06-19-2008
I like the name too. And no Jamie or Lynn in the name anywhere!
bookworm- 06-19-2008
I'm meh about the name. Madison is fine, but Maddie Briann is too cutsie. Very Southern.

Madison and Addison are both so thoroughly overdone that I'm actually really glad she didn't name the baby Madison...on the other hand, I think Madelaine would have been nicer. Maddie sounds a wee bit too informal.
Fraoch- 06-19-2008
So is it pronounced like Bri-an (long I) or Bree-Ann?
I'm also not a fan of choosing nicknames instead of formal names for birth certificate/diploma/resume purposes, but I've heard worse!

Girls are called Addison in the US? I know Madison is from Splash but Addison? Really? (there's nothing wrong with it, for any Snarkers called Addison, but calling girls by surnames doesn't happen much in Britain)

Yep. See Addison Montgomery.
I have a friend named Addison who was ratherly awesomely named for David Addison aka Bruce Willis in Moonlighting. Her dad was like "I want her to have something to live up to!"
psammead- 06-19-2008
I had no idea. Thanks kiran (the only Addison I know is Addison Mizner and that's only because he's a character in Sondheim's Bounce).
I wish I was named after someone cool on tv...

I loved David Addison, so I love the name Addison in this instance.
There are THREE separate baby girls in my neighborhood named Addison, so at the moment I think the name is a little overdone.

I think it was Finesse Mitchell who said that girls under 21 should not be allowed to choose their baby's names. (I think he can say that with authority)
