It's a fine name, but I have to admit that the Irish first name and Jewish last name remind me of something I'd find in my spam box. I get a lot of spam from senders with wildly incongrunent ethnic surnames and first names. Like, Fatimah Jones, Jean-Paul Smith, Juan Sullivan, Sean Ramirez, Montoya Fuji, combinations like that. Nothing 'wrong' with them, just enough to give pause.

I wonder if Lindsay is after someone, I know it used to be a boy's name.

It is a bit like naming a kid Jean-Baptise O'Reilly or Muhammed Fleischman. My Mom used to threaten to name a kid Ingeborge or Annunciata, because it would would sound so funny next to a fairly Anglican surname.

When I was in college, there were 2 brothers, Angus and Duncan Goldberg.

I really like the name Bérengère (it was the little girl's name in the movie 'Round Midnight), but I think Bérengère O'MyIrishlastname would bring a kid a lifetime of WTF.

I think the reason I'm drawn to extremely plain and traditional names is my last name is three syllables and ends with "skey." That and the only name in my immediate family which no one has ever butchered the pronunciation of is "Irene."

I met a white kid today named Toshiro McWeeny. Seriously.

Amilyn- 02-02-2008
That reminds me of my graduation last year when we discovered one of our classmates full name was Oirish SANTIAGO O'Begorrah. Technically in keeping with the whole Saint's name as middle name thing common in Catholicism, but still awesome.

So Helena Bonham Carter's daughter isn't Indiana Rose? Because I'm still not buying states as names, no matter how often I hear it.

MichiSichi- 02-02-2008
McWeeny and add Toshiro to that???

Lily Rose- 02-02-2008
Well, but really, what goes with McWeeny? Might as well go big with that first name.

Poubelle- 02-02-2008
I'd do something super-plain and normal, like John, because there's no way a name like McWeeny will survive middle school untouched. (That said, the worst his parents could've done to him would be to name him something like Billie Joe or Bobby Jacob.)

No, the worst thing they could've done is gone with Beanie.

Or Richard.

He could've also been part Japanese and that could be how he got his name.

Cory Doctorow's kid: Poesy Emmeline Fibonacci Nautilus Taylor Doctorow

If I were her, I'd go with Emmy.

The rumours have been going back and forth for a month, and I'm pulling my hair out needing confirmation because it will basically give my life meaning if Tim & Helena, along with Johnny and Vanessa and Ron and Hermione, have named their child after me. That's something I would appreciate a lot.

(I actually always thought "Billy Ray" was a bit country for an English girl and a California boy, but hey, it could be worse.)

Bah..NO. I am sorry... that is just ridiculous.
Sometimes people need to be stopped.
Did someone ever tell him, "maybe Poesy isn't supposed to be spelled that way"
Unless it was after Edgar Allen Poe and he decided to describe some literary work as... Poesy? And even then it is wrong.
