Bridget Monynahan has named the baby
John Edward Thomas Moynahan. For some reason, I'm way too happy that she didn't give him the surname Brady-Moynahan, or just name him Brady.

Oh my god, me too! The frickin' Globe and Herald BOTH assumed the baby's last name was going to be Brady, and it made me want to kick their entire editorial staffs in the head.

Tom's middle name is Edward, so the baby is named after his father, in a way. I hope the initials don't lead to him being nicknamed Jet.
Jacinda Barrett and her husband
welcomed a daughter, Satine Anais Geraldine Macht, last week. It must be Two Middle Names Day for celebrity babies or something.
FabulousPant- 08-28-2007
I didn't even know Jacinda Barrett was pregnant-good for her. And I like the name Satine, even if they did steal it from Moulin Rouge.
I like Bridget Moynahan, and I like the name John, but John Edward? Too many memories of that hack psychic for me to fully appreciate the name. Its cool that his last name is Moynahan, though.

I like the fact that Bridget Moynahan used both of Tom Brady's names, and yet gave him his own separate name as his first name. She won't have to call him anything that reminds her of her ex. Plus, I hate to admit it, but I kind of hope they'll get back together someday. I remember when Tom Brady used to have a reputation as a really nice guy. It pains me to see him with a supermodel when this really nice, tall, pretty girl has just birthed his baby. And if my wish comes true, I don't want it to be like SATC's Miranda and Steve's son, Brady Hobbes Brady.

Man, I LOVE that his last name isn't Brady. LOVE.

Oh, me too! I was having conniptions reading the stupid message board on Boston.com where people were naming the "Brady baby." (And they were all stupid names, like names from the Brady Bunch, or shit like Bill Belichick Brady.) I get that he's the man around here, but they're not married, and if she had decided to give the baby his last name, it would be a fricking courtesy, not a legal obligation. Grrr...

There were a lot of commenters at Celebrity Baby Blog freaked that the baby's last name isn't Brady. (Which reminds me: why oh why do I continue reading the comments from those uppity people?) This was the most rage-inducing comment for me:

It breaks my heart that John doesn't have Brady as his last name. I think it's a big mistake. I'm sure John would have been proud to have Brady as his last name seeing his Dad is one of the top QBs in the NFL.
Hopefully John will be able to change it later in life. |
So, the kid won't be proud that he has his mother's last name because his dad's a football player? And why the assumption that John will want to change his last name when he gets older? And it breaks your heart? Maybe try getting a life.
I just don't understand what the big deal is that the baby has her last name. I don't exactly get the impression the Tom's gonna be around all that much.

People are idiots. I love the name. Nice, simple and honoring of several people. Nice job.
tiller- 08-28-2007
I don't know if it was intentional, but I absolutely love that the baby's initials spell JET. Wonder if that tells us Bridget's loyalties in the AFC East : ).
Jessica- 08-29-2007
Hee, I thought of that too. I have to say, I feel like Jet Moynahan sounds like a fun kid, though I doubt they'll call him that.

I suppose she could be a Jets fan, but considering she grew up not far from where I live, I would guess she was a Patriots fan. However, whether she STILL is a matter of debate.
I would like to congratulate on giving her son a perfectly lovely, NORMAL name. And while she and Tom Brady are no longer a couple, I do think Tom will take an active role in parenting.

There does seem to be a lot of militant mummies over at the celebrity baby blog. They absolutely lambasted an Australian runner who was leaving her 8mth old baby with his grandparents for a week while she competed in Japan, I think. From the way they were going on, I initially thought the baby was just a week old or something and was being raised by a pack of wolves. There was also a lot of comments that bordered on 'how dare she want to continue competing now she has a baby, couldn't she wait until the next competitive games when the baby is older' kind of thing. She got so much flack that both grandmothers felt compelled to comment to set them straight.
So we've had two babies born with normal names this week? The universe will not stand for this, you know; something wacky and head spinning is out there just waiting to be unleashed.
FabulousPant- 08-29-2007
This is 2007, not 1807; the baby can have his mother's name. Anyone who thinks its that big a deal should really get a life.
dinahmoe- 08-29-2007
Seriously. My sister just found out she's pregnant (via artificial insemination). If the kid took the dad's last name, it would be "R-150"*.
*lot number from the donor catalogue.
