I was wondering that myself, but I have no idea.
Maybe they were trying to avoid being too alliterative on the final syllables?
Or didn't want people to think that they named him after Peter Jackson. Maybe her dad went by Pete instead of Peter.
Congratulations to Naomi and Liev!
Pete and not Peter? A little odd, but it's not like showbiz couples -- hell, non-showbiz couples -- haven't chosen far odder names for their kids. And it's his middle name anyway.
Aw, I love it. Yay for them.
(Also, I never get tired of telling people that I went to school with a kid named Mister. And I've known more than one Princess in my time.)
Maybe they didn't want to give the kid that many syllables and two names that ended in "-er."
And on the bad name front, my college had a professor named Richard Weed. He went by Dick. His introduction certainly woke us up during RA training.
My boyfriend went to school with a couple of kids who had the unfortunate last name of Spenis. Brian Spenis and John Spenis; say it out loud, its even funnier.
At work we get a repeat customers, ones a family with the last name "Semen" and the other is a lovely woman whose last name is "Dyke" we have to say their last name as they leave, and that poor woman always cringes.

Ack, that's so funny! But I spose it would be worse if they had been girls... Michelle Spenis or Joan Spenis. Now that would be some teasing.
I went to school with a "Star" which isn't too bad, but in the same damn class there was a "Storey" and a "January Love".
So according to celebrity baby blog, the Alexander is for his late grandfather, and the Pete is for her dad, because thats what he was called, not Peter.
I don't know if they're really celebrities anymore but Trista and Ryan Sutter from the Bacherlorette had a boy named
Maxwell Alston.Pretty nice and normal.
-Whoops, ddn't realize this was also in Celebrity Pregnancies...
I scanned over this thread before leaving for work today. Imagine how freaky it was when I got to work and took a check from a woman named La Princess. This woman was old, too, at least in her seventies, so it's not like I can blame her hippie parents. It was spooky. It was like this thread summoned her into being.
Props to Naomi Watts for a lovely, normal name.
Alexander Pete Schrieber is a fine name. I don't even mind the "Pete" because it's in the middle.
Oh, and those poor, poor Spenis kids. That's just awful.
That's not good, but it could have been much worse...
