Even if I just pop on the board for a few seconds and check only one thread, then navigate away from the page (but remain signed in), when I come back, the board only shows new posts since I navigated away, even in the threads I haven't read. Sometimes it even resets the "read posts" indicators when I stay signed in and don't navigate away. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Does it happen to anyone else? Is there any way to get it to only mark a thread read if I tell it to?

I use the View New Posts link and it seems to be working the same as it always has, for me.

Yeah, but what if you don't have time to read every thread every single time you come on the board?

I have the same problem, and it sucks. Like, if I only have 20 minutes, I might want to check on a few threads. I don't have time to look at all the threads, but when I come back, I have to guess which threads I've read and which I haven't. Sorry that I have no answers, but I can commiserate.

ETA: And if I post, it marks all threads read. I don't read every single thread before posting, Forumer!

God! [/Napoleon Dynamite]

I really appreciate the commiseration. I'm so glad I'm not the only person this makes crazy.

I'm pretty sure it's a cookie issue. I know that I sometimes have the same problem, and clearing the cookies and all that rigamarole usually helps. If that doesn't work, then a wizard did it.

I just try to make a mental note of when I sign on and off...I nearly always lose the thread markers because I can only read for a few minutes at a time. At least Forumer bumps threads based on last post time, so I don't bother with any threads whose last post was yesterday, or whenever I read last.

I agree, it's highly annoying. StephenTrendy, when do you clear cookies? End of the day? Periodically during the day? I am not savvy in this area.

You can delete the cookies by clicking the link at the bottom of the main board index page. After you delete them, close your browser, open it back up and login again. You should only have to do it once, but you never know. Sometimes IPB boards like this one just have really crappy cookie issues (TWoP had them alot before their last software upgrade [and they probably still have them]).
