I had to tune in tonight to see what everyone is talking about with this Sanjaya guy and... holy crap. That hair was like whoa!

In his own category is Sanjaya. I give up. I GIVE UP. I officially love this kid. I wish he'd gone just as balls-out on the vocals as he did the hair but, whatever. I love him for knowing that he's this season's laughingstock and taking an active role in deciding exactly what kind of laughingstock that he's going to be. Unlike John Stevens or Kevin Covais, he's a part of the joke rather than the butt of it and I love him for it. Mad props for Sanjaya, and I want him to outlast the performers who may be better, but bore me. I don't support VFTW but I threw Sanjaya a few votes simply because he entertains me and that's really what I want from this show. I also look forward to the bigger and bigger WTF faces the judges will have each week he sticks around.

Yeah, I hate to admit it, but I'm with you on this one. I'm not a VFTW type (I don't vote in the first place), but I find myself kind of hoping that he'll stick around just to see what bizarre shit he pulls next week. I'm not sure that he's totally taking an active role in deciding what sort of joke that he's going to be, but I am getting a "Fuck it, I'm not winning this thing, so I'm just going to have some fun with it." vibe.

Kid looked like an elementary school girl going as a "punker" for Halloween tonight. Awesome.

Melinda's still my favorite, though it's almost getting boring how well she does every week. There's no suspense left. I compare it to watching Michael Jordan going up against a couple of decent pro players, a handful of rookies, and at least one guy who accidentally wandered onto the court and got the ball passed to him.

Man, I usually like Chris S. but damn, can't the guy ever sing on tempo? Ever? And didn't he have a band? You'd think his band would like him on the beat. He needs Mr. Holland to bang on his helmeted head with drumsticks. Geez.

There is no money you could pay me to sing a No Doubt song in front of Gwen Stefani. None.

For those who missed the "pineapple"

You know, looking at him from the side with the weird ponytails, I think he'd actually look good if he chopped all that off and went with the short hair. Sanjaya's hair is definitely becoming A Thing. There was an article in Entertainment Weekly (I think?) which put cutouts of his hair on other celebrities.

I don't know - I want to find it funny, but I just find it painful. I've never been good with awkward funny, so I just want him to go away already.

I completely agree with the Melinda/Michael Jordan comparison. Melinda is just in another league - her stage presence, ability to own any song she sings, flawless vocals - she just doesn't ever disappoint. But I think that might hurt her in this competition. Other than working on her clothing choices, how could she possibly improve? For everyone who loved Michael Jordan, there was someone like me who always wanted to see someone else win.

I still cannot stand Blake. I just don't get it. Chris R. was a complete and utter bore. Lakisha did well, but she didn't seem comfortable in her skin. I liked Gina a lot this week, and Phil pleasantly surprised me. I couldn't even watch Sanjaya; I was really embarrassed for him. I wish they'd put him out of his misery.

Finally, I think the producers are trying to manipulate the audience into liking Jordin. Maybe it's just me, but she has these performances that just don't click for me, and then the judges (with whom I usually agree) reign praise on her.

I guess it's kind of amusing that since Sanjaya knows he's going to get (well deservedly) trashed no matter what he does, he's just going balls out... but that still doesn't make it okay for him to ruin my all-time favorite stalker song. Not cool, man.

I thought Chris R was okay this week, but found myself wishing someone with a bigger voice, like Jordin, had sang "Don't Speak" instead.

There's something about Blake I just find so watchable. He kind of reminds me of someone I'd see performing at Crash Mansion and then spend all of my free time stalking.

I loved Gwen's barely hidding seething hatred of Sanjaya she was so thinking "That little fucker is going to ruin my song!"

Seriously. And then to blame it on the song, because of the downbeat or something? Dude, it's in 4/4. Try singing "Synchronicity" or "I Hung My Head" AND GET BACK TO ME.

Why did Ryan freak out when somebody (?) busted into "Don't Speak," saying they were going to have to pay for it, when it turned out Chris R. was singing it anyway? Don't they only have to pay for it once?

I love Gwen, but I felt she was repeating herself A LOT -- for every single song she'd say that the melody was straightforward and didn't require any embellishment and she hoped they'd just sing it straight and if they did that they'd do fine. Which I pretty much agree with, but still. She said that like eight times.

I felt really bad for Sanjaya when they made fun of him on SNL this weekend, but now with the hair I think he's just fucking with us. :) (And good for him.)

Yeah, I feel the same way. Usually I have nothing but contempt for the awful con-*test*-('")ants VFTW promotes but Sanjaya is just so weird that I always want to see what he's going to do next.

I was so happy to see Gina do well--she was so confident on the stage and really owned that song without getting shrieky. She was the best.

LaKisha is good, but there's something about her...she never puts a personal stamp on the songs; she just does what Whitney, Donna, etc. has done, so nothing sounds new from her. I'm getting bored and am not sure she'll make it to even the final four.

I still like Blake. It's love him or hate him around here I think, but I really like him. He takes the most risks (they don't always pay off, I know) and he has a sweet voice; it's not the strongest, I know, but it works for me somehow.

I think Haley's a goner tonight. Utterly forgettable, as Simon would say. Go find a cruise ship, Haley, where your vibrato will be put to good use.

Kiran- 03-28-2007
See I think AI should just ban "Every Little thing she does is magic". Because its my favorite song and both Constantine and Chris ruined it.

Kookla- 03-28-2007
I want to punch the audience in the face when I watch this show. The second a performer even changes the volume of their voice they're all like "Woo! WOOO!!" I'm sorry, but "I'll Stand By You" is not a cheer in the middle of it type of song.

They also hoot and holler like that whenever a con-*test*-('")ant holds a note. "Woo! A note!"
