I really did like his very first audition though. The Soup also show his "what you wouldnt know about me" clip and were all like "...Yeah...no, the hulaing doesnt surprise us."

Sanjaya kind of reminds me of Michael Jackson for some insane reason.
MichiSichi- 03-12-2007
Not insane at all NovemberRain...he has that skinny body like Michael and also his smile is reminiscient of Michael's (pre surgeries)
Wildog27- 03-12-2007
Michael Jackson's had surgery? I'm shocked, shocked I say.

Plus, Sanjaya's voice and mannerisms are reminiscent of MJ -- same breathy, whispery speaking voice and shyness.

| Exactly. And I've never been a Sundance fan but him not making it to the Top 12 is shocking. America is...weird |
After what he did to "Jeremy" on his singout, I think America got it right. If he was anywhere near that bad on Tuesday he deserved to go home twice. Sundance's only good performance was "Mustang Sally," and if he didn't have the sense to realize his voice is suited to cheerful shouters then he deserves no sympathy. He didn't have a fraction of the darkness needed to pull off "Jeremy." And it's "ruled his world," not "ruined his world," Sundance you idiot!
Sanjaya seems like a sweetheart. I hope he goes home next.
(It's possible I also can't get over the fact that his name is a horse's name. Which is odd for me, being a huge fan of horses. But really, I thought we were going to be stuck with him for the whole season.)

I think the problem is that there wasn't enough talent on the men's side to fill their slots. So no matter what happened, someone who sucked was going to be in the top 12.

I could not have disagreed more with the judges on Sligh's performance. For me he took one of the most cloying and boring songs ever made and actually created a version I would listen to. And sang it well. I liked it a lot. Blake's re-mix though...ugh. I like him ok, but that arrangement was awful. I absolutely can not *stand* Chris Richardson, but then, someone could hit me over the head with Justin Timberlake's supposed appeal and I still wouldn't get it, so what do I know.
Melinda and Lakisha both have such wonderful voices, fantastic control and intuition, and sweet personalities. Both should already be singing professionally, and I like them but...(and I really hate to say this) I still get such an "old lady" vibe off of them and I know I'd never buy anything they put out. I thought Jordin put in an equally strong performance and has a style that I find more appealing (though not with that particular song.) Gina may not be quite on any of their levels, but I thought she held her own, and hers is the only style of music I might actually consider paying for. I laughed my head off about Paula calling "Love Child" a happy upbeat song. Hello?
Someone needs to put Sanjaya out of his misery already. Taking *that* song and making it *that* lifeless takes real lack of talent. That hairdo was messed up.

I actually feel nearly the opposite.
I thought Chris Sligh's version was awful, and I kept being distracted by the intro to Clocks by Coldplay that they seemed to play over and over in the background. Blake's song, on the other hand, I actually really liked. But I've really liked Blake all along, so I might be more forgiving of him. (Chris is getting on my nerves like none other.)
With the girls, I adore Melinda. I really hope she wins, and even if she doesn't I would definitely buy her album. LaKeisha I could do without. Jordin really nailed the song tonight and I could see her going far, but I don't feel excited for her potential album like I do with Melinda.
I totally agree with someone needing to put Sanjaya out of his misery. What is with his hair? (I really think I'd take him more seriously if he just stuck with the original farrah hair, instead of straightening it one week and curling it the next week, and really whoever is doing his hair is treating him like a girl. These aren't male hairstyles, even if they're slightly androgynous.)

Oh Thank God. After hearing the judges and reading another board, I thought I was the only one. I don't get the judges problem - I thought it was a good thing to at least try to be original and not so karaoke like.
Another unpopular opinion - I loved Jordin's song choice. I attribute that to my questionable-at-best taste in music. I seem to like any song that was ever in a Disney or Disney-like movie, about dreams, or stars, or wishing on a star that dreams would come true, etc. It's disgusting really, but I love it. I didn't love the way she sang it, but I love the song.

I hated Chris Sligh's version. I thought it was awful and it really did sound a lot like Clocks. Which is bad enough on its own. Blake also screwed up a perfectly good song. Some classics should be just left as they are.
Sanjaya's hair is just the most ridiculous thing ever. But it was still better than his performance. That kid needs to go.
I don't like how Lakisha got around the rules. Everyone else did a Diana song that when you hear it, you think of Diana.
Melinda, as always, was the best!
FiggyPudding- 03-13-2007
I hated both Sligh and Blake's reworked songs, but upon relistening, Sligh's voice was pretty good.
Plus I can't stand the fact that this entire two-hour torture session was devoted to Diana Ross songs. I shudder to think what songs AI will bludgeon us with in the future. First they foist some incredibly mediocre singers on us, then they make it worse by having them sing songs that accentuate the negative. Ugh.
Haley was downright painful. I felt sorry for her. And Sanjaya is mystifying.
If Melinda and Lakisha cancel each others' votes out, I wouldn't mind Jordin making it.

I'm not sure how Kiki got away with that, either. Tonight I liked Melinda best. I don't know what Chris Sligh was doing. That so sounded like Coldplay to me. I think some of the song choices were interesting. As Simon said, if you can choose from all of the Diana Ross songs, there are some really good choices. I think Sanjaya should have sung I'm Coming Out.
