It's wrong to laugh

...but I love that story.

Not quite as awesome as the Titanic Wedding Dress story, though.

HEE! I'd seen the dress one before, but not the Drunk Baker. That cake killed me. Especially the random smear on the front.

My friend on LJ just posted these two links from Jancee Dunn's blog - Scans from a 1975 JCPenney catalog:

Part 1

Part 2

Shag carpet toilet seat cover? Unclean! The outfits are priceless. I especially love the PimpWear page.

Wait, JC Penney bongs??!

I LOVE the family pajamas.

That brown plaid combo the one boy is wearing? I had one of those except in peach and powder blue. And I was fat, so it was husky-sized.

*shudder*

Terrence Howard would go into convulsions if he saw that shag toilet seat.

Which I would pay good money to see.

The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks

I am loving the "blog."

My God, that PimpWear page is truly a thing of beauty.

The JCPenney scans remind me of It Came from the Sears Catalog, which was linked on Ye Olde SF or FT. My mother still has a filing cabinet in the spare bedroom that looks an awful lot like this furniture.

In Sears Catalog lingo, plus size boys and girls were referred to as "Husky" and "Chubby," respectively. Chubby? There's a self esteem builder! At least by the time I hit the chubby sizes Sears had the decency to go with the euphemism "Pretty Plus."

Sadly, I owned a piece from the Flame-Resistant Sleepwear, second link, as a wee lass. The daughter on the right could have easily been me. I don't think I had the booties though. That stuff was cheaper and nastier than a rotten last place stuffed animal from the carnival.

The thing I like best about the JCP catalog pictures is that in each picture there's at least one feature that makes me say "WTF?!" and then when I scroll down to the caption beneath it the author has snarked on that very feature. I feel so "with it"!

Ha, the last lolsecret today is actually my vet! They have that sign to keep the dogs out of the cats' faces, though the reception area is all connected anyway so what does it matter?

I had the toddler's nightgown and remember its itchiness. Decade old hand-me-downs. I was so cool (shut up!)

The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks

I need to send every card and letter sent to me by my dad's mother. Besides general quotation mark abuse, she signs everything with her name, followed by "Granny." If something is "from" her and my grandfather, she signs both their names followed by "Granny and Grandpa." It's "hilarious."
