FEMA has released its First Responder Guide For Space Object Re-Entry .

It contains useful advice such as,
QUOTE
If the material is on fire or involved in a fire:

• Extinguish the fire using an agent suitable for the type of fire. (Material itself does not burn or burns with difficulty.)

and

Additional Cautions for HazMat Teams
...
• While boiling a sample of a polyester fiber in hydrazine in a glass beaker, the technician used a somewhat rusty pair of metal tweezers to handle the sample. When the tweezers were put in the solution, the solution ignited. The ignition temperature of hydrazine varies from 75 deg F in the presence of iron oxide to 518 deg F in a glass container.

• During the measurement of shock sensitivity of a mixture containing hydrazine, a drop of the hydrazine mixture fell inadvertently on the tetryl donor explosive. The tetryl immediately burst into flame.

• The blue precipitate formed from nickel perchlorate & hydrazine in water exploded violently when a glass stirring rod was introduced into the suspension.

FAIL. (Clearly FEMA chemists lead exciting lives.)

That information would have been helpful last week when I was doing shots of hydrazine with a hydrogen peroxide chaser.

My undergrad degree is in chemistry. I'm reading this and reliving the "What NOT to do in lab" safety video.

Well, then he's got my vote (were I American and could vote for him)

This is the most painful thing I've ever seen on the internet:

And now he ded from shame!

If I recall correctly (and there's a good chance I'm not), that was a skit for a show on the CW.

I feel no shame in saying that I would totally vote for the first candidate to bake me a pie (from scratch, of course. Otherwise I'm just cheap.).

Pop Songs Expressed as Graphs. Can there be anything funnier than this? No, there cannot.

kariestel- 02-22-2008
Those are awesome. Awwww. Hee. It's funny 'cause it's true.

I am also a fan of these two.

And now I wish I had MS Visio on my home computer so I can do process flows for pop songs. Ooh, now I know how to spend my lunch break at work!

I ... kind of wish there were some clues to the titles, 'cos I only got about half of them. And the screencap calendar ones I couldn't read at all.

Which means that this one is quite untrue.

Flickr always shrinks down larger images--you have to click on the "all sizes" link (with the little magnifying glass) to see the legible original. (Flickr's main function seems to be as a photography sharing site, and unlike charts and calendars, most photos still work when you make them smaller.) Would you want to miss out on this and this?

Also, LOL. (Is this the internet-era version of being parodied by Weird Al?) And this PSA FTW.

This is my new favourite. Been around the world and I, I, I...

I like the ones that are accurate to the song. Where do you get your percentages from, hmmm? Flawed!!

Heh. This is one of the few ones I could get! Also, I am now singing "Smells Like Nirvana".

"Sing distinctly, we don't wanna! Buy our album, we're Nirvana!"

Well, on the percentages, you could calculate the amount of seconds spent actually singing the song and make it a percent of the whole song length. Which would seem to make green the majority there. Then again, going by mentions, all three appear equally in the song, so then it should split equally 3 ways. Either way, the graph is wrong. Which bothers me. As does this one.

They are all equal. They called them each of those things equally (according to the song). They did not say Gypsies more than Tramps and/or Thieves. IT'S IN THE SONG. I don't like that memes that are based on graphically representing mathematics are butchering the data just to do song graphs. On the other hand, some are made of win.

Still, nothing bothers me more than bad data sets.
